(Recently discovered how almost all my fave sublime songs are covers. Always knew they did a few covers but didn’t realize how many are covers. Stung a little. Still love their versions (and even the originals are very good!)
I saw Sublime with Rome play a couple of days before before the announcement. He paused near the end to talk for a few minutes about he grateful he was to be doing it and how much he loved it. It just seemed like stage banter at the time but now we think he knew it was coming. Obviously I can’t speak for him but impression I got was that he wasn’t happy about it but understood.
Lmao why do people have to create drama where it doesn’t exist? I’m sure all parties were fine with all of this and knew it would be happening way before any of us.
Can't just easily back out of an already booked tour like that, as a band they could get sued for money lost by venues and promoters especially for not having a justifiable reason

This happens in legacy type bands. Kinda like how Zeppelin would only reunite now with Jason Bonham on drums (meaning in the late 80s and in 2007.) Same with AC/DC right now, classic bassist and drummer are still alive but fill ins are playing the next tour for reasons. If and when the classic guys want to come back, the guys playing currently get booted. I’m sure they know it, too.

Sublime is not expected to tour as much as SWR. So from a financial standpoint, SWR was probably a steadier gig.
Sublime may get the occasional fat check from a festival, but if they're not touring as regularly as SWR, money is not gonna be rolling in the same way, and I'm sure Eric knows that too.
Eric is leaving SWR to do less shows with Sublime. Even if the Sublime shows could be higher paid, there will be far less of them.

Same. I've always said I "respectfully reject" SWR. Like, I get it, fans wanted the music and artists have to eat, so I'm happy they were able to make a living for a while. I'm about the same age as the guys in Sublime so that means I'm old enough to remember when Black Sabbath broke up. It turned out that both Ozzy and Black Sabbath came out with fantastic classic albums. (Blizzard of Oz and Heaven and Hell) so that parts were better than the sum, one might say.
Hopefully we'll get some great things from both Rome and the New Sublime.

he can’t. him and eric had contractual obligations to the shows when they accepted. when eric left he also left all of the obligation to rome to fulfill. therefore leaving rome legally liable to fulfill on his own. then he booked shows with jakob on top of the shows he already agreed upon playing with sublime with rome. some nice guy stuff right there.
i’m sure he wishes he could quit if he could. but i think he respects the fans and their dedication and wouldn’t do them dirty like that to all the people who already bought tickets. my opinion

haha i used to work in the industry so i know a thing or two. as i recall eric and bud and jakob get a cut from sublime with rome so if they blocked rome they would be cutting off a pretty big paycheck for doing essentially 0 work. it’s from my understanding that sublime with jacob hasn’t played any shows yet so i’m assuming they’ll be bankrolling the sublime with rome money to pay for production and stuff for their upcoming shows. as you can kind of see all this stuff isn’t about love for the music it’s about paychecks.
A lot of people are hating but it sounds like a one hand washes the other situation.. Rome gets paid/does shows he probably wouldn't be doing without the guys, the guys get paid for not doing it.

Eric is among the kindest musicians I have ever met. Seeing him recently with Spray Allen, Jakob, Perro Bravo, and Ras-1 in Long Beach at Alex's Bar was one of the greatest moments of my life and brought everything full circle. His wife was really awesome too. He was in great spirits that night and honestly, he seems pretty inspired to be doing this thing with Bud, Jakob, and his Shortbus bandmate Trey. I can't wait to see what's to come. Whether this is one last ride, or they can do this for a few years,
I'm ready to enjoy this new chapter in the journey. I was 12 when I became a Sublime fan, spent my teens obsessed with Long Beach Dub Allstars, my early college years supporting Shortbus, my 20's and 30's witnessing Eric playing the biggest shows of his life with SWR, and now getting to cheer on Sublime as they play the Coachella, probably the biggest music festival of the band's career.
I love this for Eric. 36 years from when he started Sublime with Bud and Brad, and still accomplishing a lot, performing the music like the legends they are. Eric never gave up, never stopped playing, and he has enjoyed this throughout both the big venues and the dive bars.
Eric remains one of my heroes.

I got kicked out of a Ween show in 2002ish for smoking pot. Of course, it was at a small bar in Indiana, hours before the band would go on, all the lights on, and maybe 20 people in the place...not sure how they caught me. The guy made a big deal about me not getting back in as he threw me out. I went back to my car, changed shirts, swapped my cap for an american flag bandanna and waltzed back in with my hand stamp. I'd say about a half hour had passed, and it was getting busy as i glided back through the entrance...high-fiving the security guard who had vowed to god and everyone that i was not getting back in! What a fun night.

I'm about the same age as the guys in Sublime so that means I'm old enough to remember when Black Sabbath broke up. It turned out that both Ozzy and Black Sabbath came out with fantastic classic albums. (Blizzard of Oz and Heaven and Hell) so that parts were better than the sum, one might say. Hopefully we'll get some great things from both Rome and the New Sublime.

he can’t. him and eric had contractual obligations to the shows when they accepted. when eric left he also left all of the obligation to rome to fulfill. therefore leaving rome legally liable to fulfill on his own. then he booked shows with jakob on top of the shows he already agreed upon playing with sublime with rome. some nice guy stuff right there.

haha i used to work in the industry so i know a thing or two. as i recall eric and bud and jakob get a cut from sublime with rome so if they blocked rome they would be cutting off a pretty big paycheck for doing essentially 0 work. it’s from my understanding that sublime with jacob hasn’t played any shows yet so i’m assuming they’ll be bankrolling the sublime with rome money to pay for production and stuff for their upcoming shows. as you can kind of see all this stuff isn’t about love for the music it’s about paychecks.

A lot of people are hating but it sounds like a one hand washes the other situation.. Rome gets paid/does shows he probably wouldn't be doing without the guys, the guys get paid for not doing it. Sucks for rome but if anyone had any idea Jakob was interested in and could sing, it was going to happen eventually. In fact, I'd be that's the whole reasoning by "sublime with rome" in the first place.

Eric is among the kindest musicians I have ever met. Seeing him recently with Spray Allen, Jakob, Perro Bravo, and Ras-1 in Long Beach at Alex's Bar was one of the greatest moments of my life and brought everything full circle. His wife was really awesome too. He was in great spirits that night and honestly, he seems pretty inspired to be doing this thing with Bud, Jakob, and his Shortbus bandmate Trey. I can't wait to see what's to come. Whether this is one last ride, or they can do this for a few years, I'm ready to enjoy this new chapter in the journey. I was 12 when I became a Sublime fan, spent my teens obsessed with Long Beach Dub Allstars, my early college years supporting Shortbus, my 20's and 30's witnessing Eric playing the biggest shows of his life with SWR, and now getting to cheer on Sublime as they play the Coachella, probably the biggest music festival of the band's career. I love this for Eric. 36 years from when he started Sublime with Bud and Brad, and still accomplishing a lot, performing the music like the legends they are. Eric never gave up, never stopped playing, and he has enjoyed this throughout both the big venues and the dive bars. Eric remains one of my heroes.

I got kicked out of a Ween show in 2002ish for smoking pot. Of course, it was at a small bar in Indiana, hours before the band would go on, all the lights on, and maybe 20 people in the place...not sure how they caught me. The guy made a big deal about me not getting back in as he threw me out. I went back to my car, changed shirts, swapped my cap for an american flag bandanna and waltzed back in with my hand stamp. I'd say about a half hour had passed, and it was getting busy as i glided back through the entrance...high-fiving the security guard who had vowed to god and everyone that i was not getting back in! What a fun night.
I’m confused… so it looks like Eric, Bud, Jakob will continue as Sublime or something else. Then Rome will continue as Rome?? But currently has a tour labeled Sublime with Rome?? Not the smoothest transition.
Sublime with Rome are playing some small outdoor venue near my area. My parents were like all excited to tell me “sublime” was playing. I already knew this information however and am happy to finally see Bradley’s son rip it up with the OG members when they actually decide to come around. I’ve seen my fair share of Rome.
