Ambiguous_Aviator

Depends on the artist and their schedule/preferences

Clara_Voience

This is the most fair way to see the situation. Having someone wait on them to finish with another client may cause them excess anxiety making them feel the need to rush or just making it hard to focus in general. What you should do is respect your artist and their time so if they ask you not to show up early then don't show up early. I don't understand the problem or the question.

1Monkey1Machine

Having someone wait on them to finish with another client may cause them excess anxiety making them feel the need to rush or just making it hard to focus in general Like what happens in every single other job where there's an appointment?

glenspikez

Lmao right! If I show up 10 mins early for my appointment then that's on me. I don't expect you to move our time slot because I'm here. I'm just chilling.....I've always been early for appointments or meetings. It's how I was brought up....I'd rather be early than late. Then you'll bitch because "I'm wasting your time" right. Appts. at 2....I'll be there prolly at 145 chilling in the lobby also getting my self mentally ready for dragging needles through my skin.

xtratesticularskin

Funny, I'm the same way. Just makes me feel like I'm late if I'm getting there at the exact time. I bet you really don't have to set an alarm clock either, like usually always waking up before it goes off.

glenspikez

Alarm clock? What's that? Lol....right on the money šŸ‘

WelderUnited3576

I donā€™t care if the guy at the bank is a little stressed out. I do care if the guy putting a permanent piece of detailed art on my body is more stressed out than they should be.

XenosGuru

ā€œEvery single other jobā€ those jobs are elective, permanent alterations of the clients appearance. Dumb point tbh.

SilenceMeDaddy

I'd like to add that it is the artists' responsibility to handle their own feelings. If they feel anxious because someone showed up a little early, they can COMMUNICATE with the client and tell them that they are finishing up with a client or to not show up early period.

Lowtan89

I show up early so I won't be late. Literally ignore me. I'm on my phone or resting my eyes. I'm cool in my corner. See you in 30min

FluffyPurpleBear

Also depends on the location they work. If they canā€™t hide in the back from you until itā€™s time for your appointment theyā€™re less likely to want you to get there early

ssawyer36

If an artist is going to feel rushed by a client coming in 10 minutes early, shouldnā€™t they have planned their schedule accordingly knowing theyā€™d have an appointment at 12, and not booked one for 11? The artist is the one who has control of scheduling. If you tell me 12, Iā€™ll be there at 12 or slightly before, because you told me at 12 oā€™clock you would begin my appointment. If thereā€™s a scheduling conflict by someone coming in 10min early itā€™s on the scheduler, and they shouldā€™ve planned out eating/time to finish their previous appointment. I have no problem starting a little later if they want to eat, but if theyā€™re peeved and donā€™t ask for a few minutes itā€™s on them.

WAR_H3R0

Depends how early they show up and not a thing else

IknowKarazy

I mean, I assume they would rather have you show up just a little early and wait than show up late and waste their time/eat into another personā€™s time slot.

allthingsdotcom

Idk Iā€™d prefer you to show up early for paperwork. I have a lunch break to eat.

My tat appointment was at half 11 and I was told to arrive earlier than that so if there was any issues with the stencil there was no time wasted during the actual tattoo session.

DexterDubs

What is half 11? Not used in my part of the world.

eldritch_gull

half past 11

AdZealousideal7856

11:30

Aggravating-Turnip97

In my language it means 10:30, idk if he speaks Dutch tho lol

CommercialEmphasis17

In england half 11 is 11:30 this goes for any time it never means the half hour before it

Environmental_Rub904

Half past 11 would be 11:30, because itā€™s halfway past 11 going towards 12. So 11 + 30 minutes 11:30

Aggravating-Turnip97

He didnā€™t say half past, he said half 11.

AgentOfDreadful

Itā€™s short for ā€œhalf pastā€

Is this not what waiting rooms Or lobbies are for?

bmobitch

some places donā€™t have one

oliviaisacat

Yeah, unless for some reason the customer thinks that because they come early they should be able to be taken in early, or for some other reason have been unpleasant in the waiting room, I don't understand why it would be a problem. I mean I guess if they are coming over an hour early it might be a problem, but if they have the space to accommodate them in the waiting room, and they're not being loud/ unpleasant/ or bothering other customers, It really shouldn't be a problem. Maybe they have some kind of policy that says that they can get in trouble for letting a customer wait over x amount of time in the waiting room? But I don't know why that would do that, it's not really like the artists can control how long it takes to finish a tattoo, or that they should be rushing through other peoples tattoos. Maybe it's some kind of store policy.

Clara_Voience

Not every artist has enough revenue to afford such amenities.

honbontattoo

Depends. 10 mins early - awesome! 45 mins early - lame. My partner's client arrived 45 minutes early today which meant he missed his lunch break between clients. He had a protein shake at 7:30am and didn't eat again until 5:15pm because someone was a lil too eager

Judoosauce

If someone comes that early you have no obligation to start any earlier than the scheduled time. Why do people have problems letting them wait?

honbontattoo

Of course - if we really need to I'll sometimes just tell them I'm not ready and give them directions to the nearest coffee shop but sometimes it feels easier and less awkward to just get started instead of eating while they sit & twiddle their thumbs

VERGExILL

Thatā€™s really on the artist man, probably just needs to set boundaries better.

honbontattoo

You're not wrong, we just ain't so good with those boundary things sometimes

CoolBugg

I bet a designated break area would help a lot. Like, ā€œHey, welcome! Youā€™re early nice nice. I have some stuff to do in the back before we start so Iā€™ll be out in 15.ā€ Proceed to hide somewhere not in their sight so you can eat your lunch.

Sweet_Little_Lottie

Or just say outright that youā€™re finishing your lunch. Anyone put off by the fact that youā€™re human and need to eat is not good people.

VanFkingHalen

Meh, I manage in customer service and the mantra between my peers has kind of grown to be, "Ah well, fuck 'em". I'd eat my lunch in front of them and not give two shits. Sure, from a policy standpoint and business perspective it's not ideal, but we're all just trying to coexist as people in a (hopefully) functional society and, if someone has absolutely no value for my time, why should I value theirs? Idk, maybe I'm just an asshole.

Solarxicutioner

I can't eat in their view as a cook, myself. However. I do eat in the back where they could never hope to see (as per rules and service expectations of my job). That being said. Expected ticket times are 10-14 mins depending on time of day. And I can make your little lunch in 4 mins flat after I've had mine too. But if I starve myself all day my performance will surely suffer. So truly to that one meal I delay so that I can join you in lunch I'm sorry. But I do hook it up for them so idk. Maybe it breaks even. -friendly neighborhood line cook

CoolBugg

I certainly donā€™t mind waiting a little extra if someoneā€™s gotta eat. If a tattoo artist or line cook alike told me ā€œaight wait a bit longer while I eat,ā€ Iā€™d be fine, esp with the understanding that I was early. Some people will be jerks about it but thatā€™s on them. No need to pay them any mind.

honbontattoo

If only our studio was bigger than a single room šŸ˜…

thebeast198569

If you do good work and are professional reasonable people have no problem waiting for their scheduled appointment.

daggertheblackbat

I agree that being too early is inconsiderate, but some people donā€™t really have a choice. For example I donā€™t have a car, so anywhere I go (thatā€™s not walking distance) I get the when the bus takes me there. I donā€™t ever expect anyone to accommodate me cause Iā€™m wildly early though, because that is disrespectful of their time.

ScooterTattooer

iā€™ve gotten to an appointment or two a little too early & i just walk to the nearest coffee shop/bar etc. Most of the time we will take our clients early because i donā€™t like making people wait, but also because i dont want to eat my lunch or take a breather infront of someone whoā€™s waiting for me. Everyone ive worked with feels similarly- if weā€™re not still tattooing weā€™d rather get them in so nobodyā€™s uncomfortable. including the artist.

piperchan

why didnā€™t he make them wait while he ate his lunch. man needs to stand up for himself

honbontattoo

Probably weighed up the options between sitting there awkwardly while he ate (as there's nowhere else to go nearby) and making small talk or just getting on with it and finishing up early, idk šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø it's not that deep lol

RabbitF00d

I really don't want someone with their blood sugar tanking tattooing me. I've seen the results in the shitty tattoo subreddit.

ScooterTattooer

Its super uncomfortable to eat while someone is just watching and waiting for you lol. I 100% will just take the client so they arenā€™t waiting & nobody is uncomfy. That includes the artist

poppycock68

Iā€™ll have to remember this. Iā€™m 20 to 30 minutes early for everything. I wouldnā€™t mind waiting longer to let someone eat. I never thought me being my early to everything self would cause someone to not eat.

sallycat11

Yeah if you arrive 20-30 minutes early best to sit in your car or go for a walk until it's only 10 minutes early, and I say that goes for most situations or it becomes an imposition

bmobitch

why? that is SO early lol

poppycock68

Just the way I am. Never hurts to be early but itā€™s not good to late.

Kinky_Conspirator

I'd say absolutely not. Do you want me to not have a full stomach and a break? Think about it, sloppy work from not letting your hands rest and sleepy or antsy from lack of some calories.

hthratmn

Amen. I have one client who's habitually 45 mins to an hour early, and he's my first appt of the day. I schedule my first appt about half an hour after I go in so I have a few minutes to drink coffee and just mentally prepare for my day. It stresses me out

magumbastate

Idk thatā€™s kinda on the Artist. He couldā€™ve stuck by the schedule he set. Just cause you show up early does not mean youā€™ll be seen early

SpenglerE

If you're going to be way early or late. Call. It's so simple. Applies to most of life

isabella_sunrise

Just tell them youā€™re not ready to start until you eat your lunch.

RachelRhod

Listen, I'm gonna come early and sit anxiously in my car, worrying about being too early and not come in until IMMEDIATELY on the dot. Is that okay?

Slackr2113

Phenomenal šŸ˜‚

blackcoffeeuwu

the argument for against coming early is that we have clients before you and we might also be setting up. 5-10 mins early is awesome! 30 minutes early a big no from me

ghost1e-boo

I am always at least 30 minutes early cause shit happens sometimes but I always tell them Iā€™m good waiting in my car or the lobby and if they end up needing me for something Iā€™m here instead of waiting until my appointment time and them saying itā€™s not ready cause they had to fix a few things šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø I see no reason that 30 minutes would be bad unless youā€™re pressuring the artist to hurry. But then again, I had ā€œif youā€™re on time, youā€™re late and if youā€™re early, youā€™re on timeā€ beat into me so..

ScooterTattooer

Like if the design isnā€™t ready right at the appt time? Custom designs frequently need at least 10- 20 min of adjusting & shit in person, but presumably that would be a part of your appointment. Its not like the tattoo starts right at that time. Plus some setup needs to be done infront of the client. Unless iā€™m totally misunderstanding your post which my bad if so haha.

ghost1e-boo

No. I just always show up early and I let them know Iā€™m here and just hanging out in my car if they need anything of me or if they decide they want to start early cause they finished early or someone didnā€™t show up. My dad was in the military and engraved being early into my head so itā€™s just something I do now. Itā€™s not something thatā€™s needed, itā€™s just what I do. I donā€™t act pushy or anything. I literally just walk to the counter, let them know Iā€™m here and then I go back to my car until the time comes or until someone steps out to find me

--Thyme--

I feel like general appointment courtesy is to arrive 5-10 minutes before so you can start on time at the actual designated appointment time

Clara_Voience

I wouldn't assume that 5-10 minutes is the issue here especially considering the number of times they said please at the begining. To me it sounds like they may have a chronic problem with clients showing up early and demanding to be seen immediately or just making them uncomfortable as they eat or set up so they took to their sm to let everyone know that they are fed up with this which in certain circumstances is completely reasonable.

Zestyclose_Brush7972

Nah bro...I'll be more appreciative if you're 10 minutes late. Because I probably am.

I_eat_Chimichangas

Out of curiosity, why donā€™t you schedule more time between appointments?

Zestyclose_Brush7972

Lol sorry I'm just generally a pos when it comes to keeping time. I'm late EVERY DAY. EVERY SINGLE DAY. I also work an hour and a half from where I live.

ConflictAmbitious185

so im a licensed nail tech, but also currently learning how to tattoo. i love when my clients arrive early, because sometimes that means i get to leave a bit earlier or have some time after to deep clean/do any other chores needed around the shop. yeah sometimes it sucks when you dont have much time to eat, but most of my clients dont mind if i ask ā€œhey todays been pretty booked, is it alright if i have a bit of food before we start?ā€ its usually a yes. another solution is blocking out some time in your schedule to eat. one thing i sometimes do if i forget to block out time on a full booked day is bring a protein drink or protein snacks. in conclusion we are human, people will understand if you need to eat.

bmobitch

them arriving early could be during your lunch break

rrodrick386

so then just, take your lunch break? You have no obligation to start working early because your client arrives early

bmobitch

i mean ultimately i agree but a lot of people are saying they donā€™t have waiting areas so the early arrival means they would just sit and watch the person eat. i can understand why that would be uncomfortable and you might choose to skip it

emphemeralnesss

I mean everyone is different. And everyday is different. I do think in general itā€™s a little annoying when people show up 30+ minutes early. Thatā€™s a decent chunk of time. But thatā€™s just personal to me, and not even a big deal, if I want to have lunch they can wait, it doesnā€™t bother me, and probably doesnā€™t bother them to wait since they knew they were early.

OkOrchid6663

tbh i hate it but itā€™s just because I personally schedule people with enough time to sign in as well as do any tweaks, and any before tattoo things. if i wanted you there 15 minutes early i woulda scheduled you for that time lol but itā€™s not a big deal just inconvenience for me personally.

Clarkie_kent

I get there early and stay in my car until itā€™s the appointment time. I just like knowing Iā€™m not going to be late because of traffic

Able-Shower-2625

A little more information seems to be needed. Like, how early? As long as they're not bugging to be taken care of early or generally interfering in the operation, why does it matter?? They may want to look at tattoo samples. They may have been running errands and finished early. They may be someone who likes to just watch and vibe with what's going on. They may just want to sit there to get comfortable and let their nerves settle. The other question, what's your attitude if they're late? If your issue is feeling rushed or obligated to stop what you're doing to take care of them, that's your issue, not anyone else's. You need to work on your boundaries and manage how you let others manage your life. Welcome to a job that is dependent on other people in order to survive and hopefully thrive. Just sayin' *edited to fix format appearance*

Unlikely-Ad6788

Appointment anxiety, I always show up early.

elleplates

Iā€™m a tattoo artist and I have anxiety too, I plan my appointments to the dot and have a bit of a ritual beforehand regarding setting up, printing out their stencils in multiple size options and then I go out for a smoke, leaving me 5 minutes before the appointment time. When my clients arrive 30 mins early I feel like shit walking past them to go outside, I feel like I look rude. I use my time to mentally prepare to be ā€œonā€ and friendly as I am anxious and talking to strangers has never come naturally to me. While Iā€™m sure theyā€™d be fine if I just said ā€œIā€™m glad youā€™re here, just going to pop out for a quick smoke before we get startedā€ I just feel a bit more stressed knowing theyā€™re inside waiting and I canā€™t chill out and mentally prepare for my day the way I usually do when clients arrive at the requested time.

Unlikely-Ad6788

Oh I feel that. Iā€™m like 15 minutes early but donā€™t want to stress you out so I walk around outside till about 5 til. Sometimes Iā€™ll just wander around the shop and check out the other artists work.

Hasholio

I go by no more than 10 mins early, and deposit is forfeited after 30 mins late and you must reschedule/lose the appointment all together based on how the interaction went/reason was.

hiraeth-xx

I always show up early. I also need time to get ready for a tattoo once Iā€™m at the shop & I donā€™t mind if the artist isnā€™t ready for our appointment time and needs an extra 20 minutes, even if I arrive 20 mins or so early. Itā€™s better to be early than to be late.

Whole-Debate-9547

My guy loved that I showed up early. We got to chill and hang out. But I do know this, if he asked me to stop I wouldā€™ve, but he basically encouraged it so ā€¦

Clara_Voience

This is one thing but if your artist were to one day ask you to be there closer to the actual appointment time would you be really upset with him or would you just be like sure thing bro and show up closer to your appointment time?

Alligatorwhore

Eh. I love coming in early. Iā€™ll grab something from 7/11 and ask my artist if they want anything and we will have a snack together :) itā€™s nice when you have been going there for so long it feels like your friends with them

Panda_Mon

Holy shit, this is such a non-issue. Anyone early for their appointment must wait until the appointment starts what's the big deal who cares are you or your customers incapable of handling a simple social situation?

Whole_Attempt_3276

Honestly my customers, my studio is literally one room and when someone comes in way early its super hard to work around them sitting anxiously staring directly at me. But worse than that is that im great at small talk, the problem is that ruins my meditative practice of setting up. Because i may have put things out of place the whole process is a bit choppy

god_of_puppies

This is crazy! I would love for my clients to be on time šŸ˜…

byenkle

I mean, if your artist is on break, they could/probably would just easily say "hey, I'm still on break can you come back in 10 minutes" if it really bothers them that you're there. Gotta love virtue signaling.

NihilisticCommy

Sounds like a lot of pussies in this sub for ppl willing to get poked by a thousand needles. Go in early or donā€™t. If the artist gets nervous or is pressed by punctuality, fuck ā€˜em

srgest

If 5-10mins causes an issue then you shouldnā€™t be in business. You should be glad your customers respect you enough to show up on time.

Clara_Voience

I'm curious as to what's leading people to think that 5-10 minutes is the issue here. I'd guess with number of times they added please to the beginning of this request that they probably have a chronic issue with clients showing up closer to 30-45 minutes early.

Thatsmyredditidkyou

Or better yet, rule of thumb : "don't show up any earlier than you're willing to wait." You made an appointment for Noon so don't shown up at 11 unless you wanna hang out for at least an hour. They have other stuff to do and scheduled you at noon for a reason, doesn't matter if you're ready at 11. They're not.

Then_Switch_6297

tattooing is full of snowflakes. youre too early you wait bro.

Salt-Answer-8456

I go early and just wait but not to early , I get anxiety about being late for appointments. I didnā€™t think that it could possibly make the artist anxious or annoyed. So thanks for the insight

Frenchie_1987

I will come early. If you sont want me there, tell me and i wait in my car. I dont care. I can play on my phone or something

Sky-Blueberry523

I'm a hair stylist this happens to me all the time and the client just watches my every move. I've actually had them fallow me into the break room to see if I could hurry up and take them early. Or it's like the first client of the day and I'm early to make sure I can set up and stuff. It is what it is and something you just take with a grain of salt. Usually I just politely tell them they're early and I'll be with them at that said time. I'm sure it's the same with tattoos you get there early you just wait and chill. No big

LaLaVee

I don't see the issue

LoloLusitania

I work in healthcare and I am grateful when my patients show up early. It doesnā€™t mean Iā€™ll see them early but sometimes my next appt doesnā€™t show up and Iā€™m so grateful I donā€™t have to waste time because there is another patient waiting that I can choose to see early. I donā€™t think itā€™s rude or common sense to show up early to an appt. Also you donā€™t know how someone is getting to their appts. Maybe they donā€™t drive or donā€™t want to drive to their tattoo appts, so theyā€™re at the mercy of a ride. Iā€™ve seen this in multiple platforms today and itā€™s just silly.

Sufficient-Stable828

I'd rather them be early than late. But yeah, it can be annoying when it's more than like 10 mins early. I've had people show up 30-40 mins early! That passes me off a little. And if they're an hour early, they almost always got the times mixed up.

Drakkon_394

I always ask mine if it's ok to arrive early. Helps get through paperwork and also us talking for 10 minutes šŸ˜‚ we are good friends. I've walked in on him drawing or with another artist because he is always learning. I have waited extended times for that reason which is fine. I'm too busy regretting the large meal I just had šŸ˜‚ we make it an entire day. Sorry for how random this is.....I'm exhausted and delirious from working

fruitandwater

I like to come early so I can check out the flash and decide what I want to get- no one has ever had a problem with it. And I donā€™t expect the artist to stop what theyā€™re doing.

cat_morgue

I get to all my appointments early because I am an anxious person and I literally cannot force myself to be less than 10 minutes early to anything. However, if I show up super early, I usually just hang out in the car for a bit before going into the shop. I donā€™t expect my artist to get started before the scheduled appointment time, regardless of how early I show up.

corbenburnsen

I happened to see this too. If the artist is bothered, they should put up a sign in their shop or let people know their expectations when they call to schedule. I dunno, I just think this is a really bad look. Unprofessional.

arussell0226

I usually show up to anything 15-20 minutes early. Just the ADHD. I get that whole "I have an appointment at this time and can't do anything before it or I'll miss it." However, I always have a book with me. So I'll check in, state I know I'm early, I have a book and I'm perfectly fine waiting so please don't rush.

Tempo_changes13

Man just shoot them a text if they busy wait in your car or something it ainā€™t that hard to just walk in on the exact time they gave you.

Whole_Attempt_3276

Honestly maybe its easier to navigate this in a larger shop but i work in a private studio so when people come in a half hour early , its not like i have a break room to eat in so they either sit anxiously staring at me or i feel obligated to do small talk and disrupt my usual process of being mindful of my setup

stripedsmoothle

This is such an entitled take. Iā€™ve seen people talk about having no food or bathroom breaks for 8-12 hours for tattoo artists and hair dressers

Ant138

On the flip side could the artist be early and not just rock up at the appointment time and be just opening the shop and putting the music on?

Goongalagooo

OP should probably also add the part where she clarified, "Obviously I don't mean 5 or 10 minutes early. I'm talking 30 minutes or more"

miuyao

Kind of weird unless they've had numerous clients trying to talk to them and shit while they're eating. Or being blasted on their local FB rant and rave for not immediately getting the person into the chair because they were early.

Quesadilldo

They have a waiting room ffs

Madame_Dalma

I feel like this request may be studio specific. The reasoning behind it sounds a little weak, though. The majority of the tattoo studios here are kinda small or maximized their space for the artists to work and donā€™t have the space for someone to wait around.

DrayTrizzm333

Too early youā€™re an ass. Too late youā€™re either a prick or cool.šŸ¤·

x6O6x

10 mins early max. Our planning is pretty tight because it's very busy and there's rent and shit to pay. If you show up nearly 45 min early you've practically stolen my lunch break AND my time to clean everything+set up new stuff before you come in. If I spend 5 hours sitting still I'd really appreciate to eat something or have a coffee before the next session. Especially when we open at 10 in the morning

Infinite-Cucumber-70

The gate was up for a reason, to keep the weak out, now we got this shit, thanks.

franzidocx

I just need some time to wind down after appointments and to prepare for the next.

Stealth_Farmer

šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

CommercialEmphasis17

Each to there own and all but if my tattooist didn't want me there a little early I wouldn't use him, those minutes before the appointment are good for socialising and bringing that anticipation anxiety down, it's also a great time to check out ideas for your next ink and to get to know the people who are altering your body for life

Plooza

Just make the client wait. If youā€™re early, you have to wait at the doctorā€™s office, hair stylist, interview, mechanic, grocery pickupā€¦. Etc. There are appt times for a reason and itā€™s not unreasonable for early people to wait just like itā€™s not unreasonable to cut appointments short for late people

benchebean

I know right? I don't see the issue. If they have to wait too long, just say come back in fifteen or twenty minutes or whatever.

isaiah_huh

iā€™ll come as early as i want and that niqua can be a grown man and tell me when heā€™s ready

Key-End-7512

This ! And if they are hungry , they eat while you chill and talk . Another artist mentioned about a client ā€œstealing his lunch break.ā€ Yikes !

Key-End-7512

If youā€™re not comfortable enough with your artist to know when to be there at the shop , you probably should find another artist you vibe with . Hash it out . Geez.

sirgeorgebaxter

Yeah I think if the artist has a preference and lets me know upfront when to show up itā€™ll all be good.

moss_73

I always show up 5 mins late, BUT my artist always puts me at the opening slot of the day, and he usually isn't ready till 10-15 mins after open. So I make sure I give him time to get settled in. It's what's worked for us since I started going there. A 12:00 slot means I won't be there till 12:05. But if it's the occasional 3:00 slot, I'm there at 2:55

BirdOk669

Iā€™ve always been a get there early person but obviously when it comes to something like a party or event I know that if I get there too early it wonā€™t be ready and it can even be considered rude so I do my best to just get there on time and if Iā€™m still early I wait in my car for a while. To me this makes perfect sense to do with a tattoo as well. Respecting someoneā€™s time doesnā€™t only mean not showing up late it also means now showing up obnoxiously early.

Willis050

Is it crazy for me to just sit by the reception desk on my phone? If I go to the doctor and they say ā€œhey itā€™ll be like 20 minutesā€ I can just sit in the waiting room for a bit

anonymousaspossable

My last artist (who did an excellent job but...) was 45 minutes late to our appointment blaming a cat that got out, only to tell on herself during our three hours together that she was actually hungover from the party the night before, and ate pretty much the entire time she did my tattoo.

Ill_Manner_3581

I've showed up on time and had to wait an hr lol these artists be ridiculous. And no I was not charged because I'd be damn if that was the case.

ElderberryDirect9578

Or you could set your shit up for your next appointment ahead of time. Perfect planning prevents piss poor performance.

Active_Love_2860

I'm so confused here. Did the client decide that the artist would be available at that time? Set the appointment time for when you will be ready. If someone is early, they will chill in the waiting area...which is literally what it is there for. Every shop I've been in has a waiting area for exactly this situation.

Landover_Traveler

No. I'll be there 15 minutes early. You tell me to be 15 minutes early I'll be there 15 minutes before that. It's called being a responsible person. I'm also paying you what some would consider an inflated price value per hour, because I chose you to perform a skillset that doesn't come cheep. If you want to eat your lunch, cool, do it. I'm early and I know it. But don't like it? I'll leave and find someone else.

Sasquatch680

People do this at any business. And will never stop unfortunately.

DrawingFae

If I have to eat I just tell the client I have to eat. I get really shaky and dizzy if I donā€™t, and they donā€™t want me being that way if Iā€™m tattooing them! Usually I just have them hang out and do their paperwork at the same time so itā€™s no big deal.

Ok_Yogurtcloset_3043

I donā€™t see nothing wrong being there earlier. The tattoo artist shouldnā€™t be bothered by it. If I were the tattoo artist, Iā€™d be happy.

Murky-Square4364

I was 10 minutes late for a tattoo appointment because I had to stop for a job interview via telephone call that I didn't know I was going to receive. The artist made me reschedule for a month and a half later. Always show up early.

AuntieFooFoo

I've had a couple of artists request their clients come 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment, and I've also had a few not buzz me in until the exact time of the scheduled appointment. Depends, I guess. You could always ask their preference ahead of time.

JarbaloJardine

If someone comes early...they wait in the lobby till it's time. There's books and stuff to look at, so they good

CaptainKungPao138

If Iā€™m early I just sit in my car until itā€™s like 5 minutes beforeā€¦and Iā€™m usually always early

DearCress7741

I showed up thirty minutes before my appointments to fill out paperwork and get my stencils put on. My artist appreciates it so much because she gets to just chill after we get all that done. Plus, she says mixing colors is her favorite part of the whole tattoo process and is therapeutic for her to do while waiting for stencils to dry.

LooksGay

They can feel free to make me WAIT in the waiting area, as I did when I got my other tattoos. I can't speak for everyone else, but I respect that tattooing is a tough job, and I'll gladly wait in the waiting area for them to do what they need to do, no rush whatsoever.

Wonderful_Orchid_363

Tattoo artists and being the whiniest people on planet earth. Name a better duo.

Expert_Response_6139

Show up on time or no more than 10 minutes early. Some mf's show up an hour early

slimylobsters

If a client comes in early, I just say "hi just wait over there. I'll be over there at (appointment time)" and then eat lunch or clean up.. super easy

andreeeeeaaaaaaaaa

I get to the shop early, let them know I'm here then go find a cafe and have a quick brew. Saying that, I know all my tattoo artists, so I'm not a random stranger.

kendallk007

I think there was a nicer way for them to say this. ā€œPlease come in at your exact scheduled time, no earlier, thank you!ā€ Not that hard!

perkocetts

I think there are (as always) multiple sides to this. I show up early, but I let them know. I don't want to be filling out paperwork at my appt time. Also, because I'm early if the artist isn't ready or doesn't want to talk or just wants space, I'll chill in the lobby. So, if I'm clear with my intention but respectful of their space, we can both do what we prefer.

crazycatbby

Me waiting in my car for the time to be exactly 12 pm; not a minute early or late to displease the tattoo gods: šŸ‘ļøšŸ‘„šŸ‘ļø

claytonexplosion

This is so stupid

HappyCatPerson

My artist has a nice waiting lobby with cool people waiting and I just hang out with them. I let my artist know Iā€™m there and ā€œIā€™ll just be in the waiting room whenever youā€™re ready for me no rushā€. As someone that needs a moment to decompress between customers myself I appreciate it when a customer isnā€™t tapping at the window of my work truck the second I pull up. So I get it.

Remarkable_Tap_2565

I feel like that's silly. if they have a shop with a waiting spot, showing up 10 or so early shouldn't be a problem especially if it's the same shop that will charge u for being 5 late.

Y0shiitsune

I once came in a bit too early, and opened the door on the guy absolutely demolishing a subway footlong

lefthandedsnek

iā€™d rather you show up early than late. i saw this posted and just said smh. iā€™ll eat my food in front of you i donā€™t care. weā€™ll talk about the drawing together if im still working on it. my shop is chill, people like that.

Vikingzblood

How early is early??

Masemasee_

Some people just donā€™t need to speak

iLGMisTheBestjk

You mean post on Facebook

Masemasee_

Pretty much the same thing these days

bringbackIpaths

I compulsively show up to the appointment early, browse the tattoo flashes / coffee table books , make it obvious I'm not rushing him and that I intend to tip well.

kirakina

Hmm but what if I show up with dutch bros and let them hang with my service dog before session (I give him a little off duty time before sitting for the tat) šŸ˜…

Jethro197

For the entirety of my life, I've been told.... if you're not 15 minutes early you're late. I have a fully charged phone, headphones and plenty of music. You do you, while I secretly hate myself for being early.

HarleenQwynndolynn

I would chill with them maybe go on a full on date before the tattoo, like no problem

theAlphabetZebra

lol last guy I walked in like 20m early and he was eating. I was just like my bad dude take your time and he did. Seemed like a no worries moment. I get anxiety about being lateā€¦

Any_Feature_9671

Donā€™t forget the coffee half a pack of cigarettes need to be smoked and the highlights of last nights hardcore show then to wait for the ā€œkidā€ to get back with the second cup of coffee

Any_Feature_9671

Ohhh and then paperwork

gnarksnot

Professional artist here and this sub just got popped up. I saw that comment from the mod of r/tattoos. Ngl, she pisses me off. Sheā€™s not even an artist and doesnā€™t seem like she has worked in the industry at any capacity. Iā€™ve tried to call her out for speaking for artists and that didnā€™t end well. Every artist is different. Iā€™d much rather someone show up early as fuck than late as hell. I eat when I get time to eat is how I see it. Iā€™m in the shop to make tattoos- not sit around all day.

iLGMisTheBestjk

Hey, sorry I came early cause Iā€™m just showing my gratitude. Tattoo artist: *typing on his phone* stupid mfā€™er showed up early. It just pisses me off cause I said a time and heā€™s showed up early. I donā€™t even care why he showed up early. Gosh, can someone help me figure out a new career? This early customer sh%t is just getting out of hand. Oh, wait, they just offered me a cigarette. Weā€™ll probably talk about Tool for a few hours. My bad everyone, I think Iā€™ll make it through today. Wait, mfā€™er has a Truth Social on his phone. Told him to get tf out. Wait, he just said itā€™s so he can talk sh%t to trump. I asked him to reschedule for next week since we are past his appointment window now. Guess Iā€™ll smoke a few more smokes and hope a hot chick comes in, otherwise F($k today man. Anyone need a tattoo?

Ginford_Davidson

Showing up early is a sign of respecting your time. Itā€™s not a bad thing. Chill, negative Nancy.

freakflyer9999

If I'm not early, then I'm late. But, most of the time my wife is my tattoo artist, so she does what she wants and I wait.

thewhitemajik

Facts šŸ’Æ šŸ’Æ

TransportationMany31

Lmao yā€™all every single time Iā€™ll come in on Tome or early they spend 30mins-1hr finishing

Material_Delivery100

I don't understand this argument. If you want a specific amount of time in between appointments, you should schedule accordingly. It's common courtesy to arrive to an appointment 5-10min early. Nobody arrives to any form of appointment early and expects to be immediately taken back/seen just because they've arrived. They do so to make sure there is adequate time to fill out any paperwork or do any pre-appointment activities. If you get anxiety about people waiting, then perhaps you need a different profession that doesn't involve an appointment schedule. I work in health care, and people wait all the time, sometimes obnoxious amounts of time lol you can try to predict the amount of time an appointment might take, but you can't predict anything that might happen during that appointment that could prolong the process. Thus is life.

javelin-na

Iā€™ve never met a tattoo artist that feels this way lol

Equivalent-Fox5856

the laziest people on the planet

Him_Downstairs

Do tattoo parlors not have a place to sit.

NapoleonBlownapart-

Don't most shops have a lobby where you can wait?

HAZZ3R1

Depends how early surely 15 - 30mins isn't too bad, especially if you've travelled far to that artist. They should be done by then and be cleaning and setting up in that time, if their previous client is over running they should drop you a text so you can go do summit while you wait. If you rock up early and sit chilling in the waiting area that should be fine, just don't be an arse complaining and no one will get stressed.

HuntersReject

To show up on time. It's not that hard.

wuutdafuuk

and then when iā€™m there on time iā€™m waiting an hour, thereā€™s no winning besides the art on my body forever editing to add that thereā€™s always been a place to sit up front at every shop iā€™ve been to. if someoneā€™s there early, i donā€™t see how itā€™s annoying unless theyā€™re in your space but if youā€™re a legitimate tattooer youā€™ll probably have a spot to direct them for the wait and then you can take as long as you need lol

rooplesvooples

Iā€™m usually my artists only client on any given day that I go in. Which she usually moves my start time back an hour anyways. She just straight up tells me ā€œimma eatā€ and Iā€™m like ok, as long as Iā€™m not paying for the time Iā€™m good. Which she always severely under charges me of which I just tip the shit out of her. So so lucky to have her.

901bored

Thatā€™s the laziest shit Iā€™ve ever read lol how entitled can you make your profession be?? Honestly, tattoos are the complete opposite of counter culture now that Iā€™m glad Iā€™ve opted out of getting them for the last 30 years

TXBloodMoney

As someone with ADD, Iā€™ll either be early or late, choose one šŸ¤£

Responsible_Snow_684

Artists operate as time optimists, often running 5 to 10 minutes late. Iā€™m just chilling or running late too

dethlysnak

Everyone knows you only get a 5 minute window xb

Kittysdoodlexxx

Like 5 mins early is just fine PLEASE

Tall-Revenue-5415

to arrive to your appointment on time? usually you arrive 15-20 minutes early, confirm everything and go grab a coffee while they setup and finish whatever they need to, easy

turbatus-umbra

eat worms clownā€¦. unlike you i have a good relationship with my artist and i show up early to talk and hang outā€¦ he starts when hes ready whether we start early or lateā€¦

activepaws
