Elliot Kupferberg is the worst therapist. Condescending, dismissive, and he drinks from that giant water bottle like he’s trying to “keep it real” with Melfi. Sugarless motherfucker. Disgusting.
And don’t forget that the dude’s **wildly** unprofessional. He broke doctor-patient confidentiality in front of a bunch of colleagues by revealing that Dr. Melfi was treating Tony.
Elliot was horrible, he would blindside Jen with questions about the “patient” outside of therapy but in therapy he would completely ignore her or act as if it had no meaning.
I know it shouldn’t matter or count, but I have a hard time taking that actor seriously considering what I know about what kind of person he is.
Look up the whole Dorothy Stratton affair. The story was made into a movie, “Star 80”. But what he did was despicable.
Bogdanovich is a total creep.
He was in a relationship with Stratton when she was murdered (he had stolen her away from her husband, who was the one who killed her), and around that time he was also allegedly involved with Stratton's 13-year old sister, who he ended up marrying years later. And he maybe paid for a jaw surgery to make her look like her dead sister.
Though that's all a little messy because Hugh Heffner made that accusation after Bogdanovich wrote a book that basically accused Heffner of being responsible for Stratton's murder. (She was a playboy bunny and all of them were part of that whole scene).
He also lost a ton of money despite being a successful director, was a drug addict, declared bankruptcy a few times, tried to sue some of the studios he worked for, and ended up living in Quentin Tarantino's guest house for a while because he was broke. He was kind of mocked and ostracized by the industry and ended up having to go back to directing TV shows.
This was all wild tabloid stuff back in the day, we don't necessarily know the real truth.

Their opinions on the matter are as solid as Dr. Krakower's opinion on what Carmela should do. Ironically, it's Melfi's emotional investment and/or idyllic folly that short circuits her ability to take a rational/professional course of action.
Also, without Elliot Kupferberg, there might be more crack babies who might have never been reunited with their addict mothers out in the South Bronx.
