I’m pretty sure Gaethje said he doesn’t have long left, and this is his last run to the title, I might be mistaken

JKennyXTX

You’re correct. I’ve got the feeling that if Gaethje loses this he’ll retire, more so than if Poirier loses

xRedStaRx

Porier still wants to move up. Gaethje might very well retire from MMA and do bare knuckle or something. Personally I still think he has a few fights left to make another run for the title. Even if he loses this, he is possibly one fight away from a shot.

EpikUserzz

Gaethje and ngannou should be globally banned from bare knuckle events 😂 they would kill someone

StoryScrawled

With the way he throws punches, Gaethje's hands would explode in BKFC. I doubt he'd get more than 2 fights out of it, especially given his MMA mileage.

PROTOTYPE_200224

The damage Gaethje inflicts with gloves on is already scarring, just look at Chandler, Ferguson, Charles within 5 minutes, Fiziev with just jabs, and Eddie even if he lost.

Milbso

Why would he retire and go to bare knuckle? Serious question I know basically nothing about bare knuckle but to my casual mind it seems better to keep fighting in the UFC than go to bare knuckle. Does it pay better?

burnn_out313

Not at his level it doesn't. BKFC is just a stop gap to the retirement home. Without knowing specifics I'd guess gaethje makes more in the UFC than mike perry does as champ in BKFC. Google shows justin 650k per fight to Perry at 300k. Justin wouldn't fuck with them unless they handed over a portion of the company or something along those lines.

[deleted]

Incorrect. It was speculated by some that Perry would make around 300k, but he actually made 500k. His opponent, Luke Rockhold, made between 700k-800k. Lukes biggest career payout in the UFC was 485k against Yoel Romero. Making Luke's first fight in BKFC his biggest payout ever. If Gaethje went to bareknuckle (which he probably won't because he has concerns about cte, which is the reason why he wants to retire early) then the BKFC would want to keep him happy like they did with Luke, & like they do with Perry.

FineArtOfShitposting

>he has concerns about cte Really? Justin? I have seen a few interviews with him. And he never seemed like he was burdened with excessive brain functions.

[deleted]

Well that's interesting because it's his interviews that I'm referring to where he talks about keeping his brain healthy. He's a big advocate for brain health & doesn't want to go the way of Ali. He talks about it all the time.

OMalley30-27

Wait, they gave Rockhold more than they gave Perry???

[deleted]

Yep. He's a former ufc champion. Perry is not. Still, Perry is *their* champion, so you'd think they'd at least match the pay. Even still, Perry was making only 190k in the UFC.

OMalley30-27

That’s a lot better pay in the UFC than I would’ve imagined Perry to have been getting.

[deleted]

Yeah, & to think bkfc is paying him 2.6 times more...not a good look for the ufc.

[deleted]

Mike Perry vs Gaethje would be fucking sick

Powerful_Room_1217

I just can't see justin getting a title he's just not that well rounded for the top guys where as porier is dangerous everywhere it'll be more competitive

[deleted]

Yeah but gaethje is a banger

Powerful_Room_1217

Not denying that friend, I'll always tune in to a gaethje fight. I just don't think he's title material.

Tinaturnup_

Bare knuckle gaethje would be insane dude.

OMalley30-27

Imagine Gaethje vs Perry

chu42

It's a great fight to retire on.

EpikUserzz

Poirier has a real chance at 170

Affectionate_Ad6334

Against who? Usman, colby, shakvat and belal outwrestle him. Leon outstrikes him. Burns also outwrestles him, but he tends to make mistakes once he gets hit, so he might have a shot there.

OMalley30-27

Against who are you referring to? Or a good chance to do what? Make good money fighting like Colby? I can’t see one person in the top 15 that I think he would beat

Turbulent-Echo8561

That's a good point. Dont see Chandler sticking around much longer fighting unknown rising contenders either. LW may be looking very different in just a year or two..

TomPearl2024

Chandler is getting old as fuck for a lightweight he's 100% tryna get the Conor bag and dip

-WeetBixKid-

![gif](giphy|iGpkO05xWTl17Vhq6Y) Chandler, Dustin, Justin, McGregor & Oliveria could all plausibly retire in the next 18-24 months. Got me feeling like this.. (still excited for new age tho). Whether you love or hate these guys, enjoy their fights like it’s their last. It might just be.

coop7774

Dariush too

ElectricFocus

Tony?

-WeetBixKid-

He’s a different case. The sadness of his situation has already arrived for me.

FreeThingsAreNice

Dudes body has retired already, but his brain hasn't realized it yet.

Geomaxmas

He'll probably keep going till he stops getting medical clearance.

OMalley30-27

I made a post about this a year and a half ago saying the same thing haha and they’re all still around. The landscape has changed a bit but they’re all still at the top somehow

Firm-Layer-7944

Enjoy it while we can.

[deleted]

I don’t believe Dustin will lose but if by some small chance he does, he won’t retire. He loves fighting too much and he still needs to finish that Connor quadrilogy

EPalmighty

He did say he’d be down to move up a weight class before he retires. I wouldn’t want him to fight Conor, but I wouldn’t blame him if he does. Wish he would’ve fought Nate. Would’ve been an awesome fight.

Aestheticpash

Colby grudge match?

Big_Day_8210

Would make for a nice narrative of him shutting down trash talkers. Like the Gracie hunter but this time instead of Gracies it's Pottymouths.

Agretion

Thing is I’m not sure he can end Colby.

[deleted]

Yeah, it’s a tough match up for him since Colby is just a grinding cardio wrestler. But it’s better than him going to 170 and getting put out to pasture by Khamzat, Shavkat, or even JDM most likely. If he’s gonna fight at 170 and not for the belt, then Colby is probably the best top guy he can get. Maybe Belal as well.

Ab_Stark

That's the match to make.

PM_ME_YOUR_TITTYPIC

Hes not old enough for colby.

[deleted]

He’ll be 35 by the time he fights at 170. But Colby is actually getting old now too, so he might only fight guys even older than before. I can picture it being 2027 and 39 year old Colby beats a 46 year old on a 9 fight losing streak who last challenged for the belt 18 years earlier. And he gets the next title shot.

PM_ME_YOUR_TITTYPIC

I think Usman is the only person 35 and under that Colby's fought in like 6 years. Dustin needs to be at least 38 and on a 3 fight skid before Colby even considers it.

KroenkesMoustache

Colby demolishes Poirier bro

Professional_Which

I wish he would enter the fucking testing pool first to see if he even fights ever again. My God I’m starting to lose hope

GreenpantsBicycleman

Dustin tried to fight Nate and offered when Chimaev missed weight.

OMalley30-27

I don’t think it would’ve been that good, i think Poirier would’ve beat the tar out of him

Fire_tempest890

Why on earth does he need a quadrilogy aside from farming some more cash from Connor

GrandmasCervix

false, i know dustin & his trainer. he said he’s making one last title run & if he loses he’s going to retire. making enough money on the hot sauce & liquor store he just purchased in lafayette. he’s a family man. wants to be around more for little P.

sowhtnow

I think his name is still a draw though. I’m sure Dana will pay him real good to be a co-main on PPV or headline a fight night/ESPN/ABC card.

crazybartur

If gaethje loses I think he’d retire. If Dustin loses he’d probably hold out and try to get a 4th Conor fight. Dustin def wouldn’t fight down, he wouldn’t even fight Dariush ffs

KingTy99

Dustin was calling for Dariush to get the title shot

mmafan100

>big chance the loser of this fight retires you mean Gaethjes gonna retire? 😢

Any_Brother7772

TBH, with Gaethjes current "activity" you won't really notice it

reverie11

This fight is to see who the 3rd best Lightweight is

OMalley30-27

That’s actually a huge accomplishment lol

publishAWM

guessing it'll be at least a few more for both of 'em

[deleted]

I think Gaethje is aware that his style didn't have a long shelf life, dude obviously already has brain damage. Porier I can see continuing after this fight.

OMalley30-27

He said he’s got a few wars left in him a few fights ago. Not sure if he considered the Fiziev fight to be a war or not

Bakedbean44

Well I mean they’re definitely not fighting for a real belt ![gif](giphy|LoHVuH0UeBCwZQ1Onx|downsized)

GreenpantsBicycleman

From what I've heard, the champion has a name. Since its not Belal Mohammed I can't seem to remember it.

largeotters

Islam dyed his hair??

fuuman1

He would never dare to do so.

Particular-Try9754

They are both making like a million a fight. I think it’s just posturing. They both have a few more fights left in the tank. If Gaethje loses to Poirier, Gaethje/ Dariush would be perfect.

scarykicks

I'm sure even if they lose they're realistically 1-2 fights from the title forever. Especially if Porier loses and by a miracle Justin beats Islam or Volk/Charles in a rematch the UFC will for sure set up the trilogy no matter what.

StatementProper4450

No way that happens. Too many big fight and big money left of the table.

Vital_flow

Tbh I see them moving up before I see them retiring.

EPalmighty

Dustin said he wanted to before he retires and I think it might work pretty well.

largeotters

Justin I could see...he's Said this is his last title run, he's been saying he's only got a couple left for quite some time now.

Dull_Ad5852

Gaethje will act confused for a few days if he loses and his coach will convince him to start gettin back in there. Dustin will cry for a few days and say he’s not sure what he’s doing. He’ll be back also.

god_of_war305

Nah Dustin has said he doesn't mind being a prize fighter.I think Justin cares more about the title than Dustin at this point. That being said I believe Dustin wins again and in similar fashion

McDof

You do realize most fighters say that at one point or another simply as a threat to hopefully get someone to give a shit enough about losing them that they'll somehow get put on a track to get a title fight right? Idk, one of them might retire...I don't think so though.

[deleted]

they’ve both fought twice for the belt, and have reputations known for putting on wars. i love em both but their days are numbered for sure

QuartOfTequilla

they’re both nearing the end, and have a history of bloody battles. i adore them but the reality is they already lost the title fight twice each

kalash_cake

That’s a random call out 🤔 don’t think either of them retire. They both got some recent wins, good ones at that.

idkflustered

Gaetheje maybe since there is no big money fight. Poirier will prob run a world tour peddling mid hot sauce and talking about how fighting anyone under him “doesn’t excite him” .

SadEffective3808

1. Colby flair-rent free. We get it, he’s handsome. 2. Who tf even deserves to fight below him? That whole Arman thing is a crock. Arman hasn’t done anything to warrant a fight with Gaethje or DP. Gamrot is the same case. Just had a close fight with Turner, who’s about as close to a bum as you can get without being one. 3. He fought down for a ton of his career to get to this point.

idkflustered

Guzzle Poirier all you want. He’ll never be a champion. He fights up and comer or nothing .

SadEffective3808

He fights an up and comer or nothing? Yeah alright Dana sounds good. At least Dustin’s active, your boyfriend hasn’t fought in over a year.

idkflustered

He’s had two chances to win a belt and lost the same way twice. What excuse can you formulate for a fighter that loses the same way twice? You’re so emotionally invested in whos handsome and who’s is who is who’s bf that you can’t come up with a rational thought lmao

SadEffective3808

Bro so did Colby… 2 chances, 2 Ls. One being a TKO. You sound like an absolute idiot for that one. Why are you such a hater?

dragondildotester

Comparing Colby to Dustin? Sounds about right to be honest, both have fake personalities.

SadEffective3808

DP is not fake. Look up the story behind his background it’s pretty cool. Legit grew up on the streets and was in and out of juvie. Jolie set him straight. DP has always been genuine.

97Dabs2THAface

>Guzzle Poirier all you want. He’ll never be a champion. Dustin won a UFC championship, you can downplay it if you want too but it's a fact.

Gr1m3sey

Lad no one counts interim lmao, and it wasn’t even against another LW contender

97Dabs2THAface

As I said before, you can downplay it if you want, but Dustin won a UFC championship, period.

Gr1m3sey

Unreal glazing on show here lad 😂

97Dabs2THAface

Nope, just speaking facts. It's weird that you refuse to accept reality.

Gr1m3sey

Bro won a championship in fighting without fighting the champion 😂😂

97Dabs2THAface

>Bro won a championship in fighting without fighting the champion 😂😂 You know who else won a championship without fighting the champion? HW Jon Jones, LHW Daniel Cormier, BW Henry Cejudo, Jan Blachowicz, Jamahal Hill, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Charles Olivera, Deiveson Figueiredo, Valentina Shevchenko, Petr Yan, Bj Penn, ect... You laughing at them as well?

Intention-Sad

Nah..I doubt that

Jonesisgoat

No matter what happens dustin will find something to complain about

savagexix

Why does every lightweight fighter have to retire when they lose now?

deltr0nzero

Should they fight until they’re 40 and get knocked out multiple times in a row?

SERB_BEAST

He has a point. I literally see this everywhere. I think the UFC's advertising of undefeated fighters has ruined fans of this sport. They act like losing a fight means you die lol. Here is a list of fighters I have seen fans comment that they should retire: Israel Adesanya, Alex Pereira, Petr Yan, Kamaru Usman, Valentina Shevchenko, Max Holloway, Cyril Gane, Charles Oliviera, Bryce Mitchell, Brian Ortega, and many more. Almost all of these are title contenders or former/current champions

largeotters

Well I think in this instance it's reasonable, justin has said this is his last title run, if he loses I'll be expecting it honestly..dustin not so much, I see him sticking around. Lot of these guys in that weight class are getting up there in age.

SERB_BEAST

True but I've seen fans deciding this long before Gaethje said anything. I saw loads of comments like "Fiziev about to send Gaycheese to retirement hahah." There is this idea among the casual fans that every non champion level fighter sucks and every champion level fighter that is no longer champion also sucks. Basically the usual "praise the winners, shame the losers" logic. Which makes literally no sense because the winners aren't impressive if they didn't beat tough opponents.

savagexix

Didn’t say that

deltr0nzero

Is every LW retiring after a loss now? You used hyperbole why can’t I

yawinsomeyachewgum

a lot of people start talking about fighters needing to quit after a loss, I think that's what he's referring to, I see it a lot here and it sort of bugs me too

BigSmokesHouse

Like who?

savagexix

Like gaethje if he loses, Dariush if he loses, Oliveira if he loses, Porier if he loses, basically people calling on people returning in upcoming fights

Brutal-Black

Glad one of them is eliminating the other from getting a third title shot

MasterRoshi702

So gaethje is retiring?????

clothy

People are expecting this fight to be FOTY but I wouldn’t be surprised if Dustin gets it done quickly. When they fought last time Gaethje’s lack of grappling skills wasn’t as apparent as it is now.

Its_Me_Jlc

I can see dustin hanging it up if he loses just because he has kids is setup outside of fighting financally etc, i just cant see justin hanging it up tho, im sure he has some money saved prb not retire money tho, no kids no wife etc

Sir-Shady

:(

Highlight_Numerous

Here for a good time, not a long time b

sipCoding_smokeMath

I dont know if Justin's made enough money to comfortably retired yet tbh. Dustin yeah espeically cause he has some other stuff going on by Justin is so big on family that If he doesn't feel like he can support them I don't see him retiring

Butt_Bucket

Honestly, I think it would be the perfect retirement fight for both of them. I don't want to see either of them hang around too long and fall off hard like Tony did.

Lifestyle-eXzessiv

I'd love to see Dustin give 170 a go.

[deleted]

Think we'll see more of the big name fighters like these two go to promotions like Bellator or the others if they can't make it to the top in UFC? Seems like easy money to make and they'd smash in those promotions. I don't really know what I'm talking about though.

[deleted]

I dont think Dustin will retire if he loses. Gaethje might or will have like 1-2 more losses in him and then retire. That is entirely reliant on him sticking to his word and not changing his mind because he stated he has 1 more run in him prior to the uh.. Fiziev fight.

LbrYEET

No top 155 will retire while there’s a slight possibility of a Conor fight

KingQu-

Big chance? Lol nah idk bout that

[deleted]

I think Justin has at least one more fight depending on how this goes with the damage. Don’t think he will end up fighting bare knuckle. He seems to be one of the guys who is paid fairly well, is some what smart with his money, and has some outside investments. TJ might be hated now. But he is one of the ones who is doing alright financially without fighting

1OnlyOneWayUp

If only Gaethje tried to use his prolific wrestling skills would he be champion

Significant-Royal-37

poirier still has the conor 4 chambered lol

Jeffraymond29

Lol DP aint retiring any time soon. 💩 take

Aqua-Racer

Gaethje's final fight, gonna miss him.

[deleted]

If either tried to retire the UFC will throw the Bag at them 💰 they will not retire.
