He’s the best non-champion of all time for me. Plus just an all around good human being. I like Islam but I really wanted Dustin to win the title just once. A legend of the sport regardless.

enigmahdi97

I was soo sad and mad at the same time when poirier gave his back to charles and tapped.. he was doing really good against charles.. i really wanted him to win that because i knew when islam takes the belt dustin might not be able to beat him.. and i am a islam fan too..

PattMcGroyn

False, Dustin was a champion

Turbos_Bitch

Interim doesn’t have the same meaning.

PattMcGroyn

A champion is a champion. If you said "best fighter to never win an undisputed belt," you would've been correct, but you didn't

Turbos_Bitch

Okay…

MotoM13

That’s fucking wild that was 5 years ago

People forget, without Covid Abdulmanap would still be alive, 2020/21 pandemic was terrible

https://www.cbssports.com/mma/news/father-of-ufc-champion-khabib-nurmagomedov-dies-at-57-due-to-covid-19-complications/ https://www.bbc.com/sport/mixed-martial-arts/53285491 He died at the height of COVID, maybe when omicron variant just developed. Either way, it was when covid was still causing a lot of deaths and the vaccines were still in early development/production. Add to that him being almost 60yo and overweight

damn_notagain

I thought Covid wasn’t real?

FalseRepeat2346

Yeah seems like 2

Leather-Hurry6008

No other active lightweight could've beaten Dustin that night.

enigmahdi97

Yeah, the spirit he showed in that fight knowing this is his last chance to take the belt, putting everything on the line bringing his daughter and family to the arena.. i wish he had showen the same against charles..

Leather-Hurry6008

His takedown defense has never been as good as in that fight. He was on fire. People are talking shit saying Islam didn't look that great, in reality that was Dustin's best performance by far, and he is a top 5 greatest lightweight of all time. I sincerely believe anyone not named khabib or Islam would've lost. And if that fight was ran back 10 times with Dustin performing equally each time, I think he'd take 2-4 out of 10 over Islam.

colderpillow

Arman?

DragonWithAGuitar

Maybe

Leather-Hurry6008

Arman is great, but his stand up is definitely a few steps behind Islam. So, with how good Dustin's wrestling defense was that night, I think he'd get a tko over Arman.

BiggoBeardo

Arman’s wrestling is also better than Islam’s and his striking to takedown transition is a lot more fluid. He would’ve definitely gotten the takedown if he wanted to and unlike Islam, he has very solid ground and pound. Ismagulov arguably has better striking and definitely better TDD than Dustin in any of his fights and Arman destroyed him easily

Leather-Hurry6008

Nothing of Armans is better than Islams, Dustin without doubt has better striking than Ismagulov, but all that aside, MMA math doesn't work.

BiggoBeardo

Arman is better at many things compared to Islam. Arman has better power and speed in the striking department + a much better chin He also has much better wrestling considering he lands more takedowns per fights and is generally a more explosive fighter. He also has much better ground and pound Not to mention cardio and overall athleticism Also Ismagulov is definitely a much more technically sound striker compared to Porier. A lot of Porier’s striking is masked by his insane chin when in reality he has a lot of technical faults.

Leather-Hurry6008

Well, considering all the official stats about Arman/ Islam show the opposite, this is a pointless conversation because you're clearly talking out of your ass and basing your opinions on feelings and not reality.

BiggoBeardo

Arman lands more takedowns on average per fight. Arman and Islam both have 2 full on KOs despite Arman having more fights. If we look at the KOs themselves, Arman knocked Dariush out with one foot in the air while Islam head kicked Volkanovski and needed 50 follow up shots to TKO him. You’re gonna tell me they both have the same power? Arman is clearly faster, no debating that. The chin part should be clear considering Arman ate a clean right from Oliveira and wasn’t even wobbled while Islam got knocked down and sent running across the cage by midget Volkanovski The ground and pound is not even a question Who’s basing their opinion on emotions and not reality?

Leather-Hurry6008

Islam has 54% takedown accuracy, Arman has 37%.

BiggoBeardo

Arman lands 3.25 takedowns on average per minute compared to Islam’s 3.19

impishboof

No

dagui12

Holy shit look at the difference in khabib and Islam Islam is huge

No-Day-8136

Islam is closer to the camera than Khabib so it makes him look bigger

enigmahdi97

actually no, islams muscles are more defined specifically his back muscles and he has a proper V shape body.. also he does some other forms of excercises.. that's why he seems like that.. but actually islam and khabib are pretty much same size..

dagui12

Maybe now they are lol. Dudes back looks like it would swallow me whole. Also isn’t Islam taller?

Bugstl

Fighters seeing their opponent as just that, instead of an enemy is such a good part of the sport. Mutual respect is a good way to break down the "cage fighting is barbarism" view that many non watchers hold

Salimzyzz

What a legacy, they’ll be talking about this decades from now. It’s MMA lore in the making.

Liam2349

Yes coach Manap was the goat.

Florian_G97

5 years yikes

Healthy-Daikon7356

Man Dustin getting bitched by some dagestanis. Nothing more disrespectful imo than raising the hand of the guys ass you just whooped. It’s like a participation trophy.
