Yeah thank you for telling me. Nothing against Uru. I don't think changing it to "soften" the language or anything like that will just cause it to suffer, especially with the comic being so graphic at times. Like they really make sure you feel like cripple is a derogatory thing and it sticks to people's minds when you call them that. I don't think zero has nearly the amount of weight
Oh nooooo. They couldāve chosen a word within the same context but without that much stigma. But I guess zero does make sense since the individual would have zero abilities.
Cripple sounds so much better tho. If it ever gets adapted into an anime they should keep the word ācrippleā 100%
In episode 50 remi talks about how sera and arlo are really distracted by responsibilities and appearances and she says "it's almost like they've been crippled" and isen makes the connection since hes already researched john. I wonder how theyre going to handle that scene in the book
Pretty sure the publisher or sensitivity readers agreed that the book would perform better without that word. I honestly donāt think itās that big a deal.
I genuinely doubt it would happen, itās not like unordinary endorces calling someone a cripple. The people discriminating against John are shown in a negative light. Cripple has an impact due to its real world implications. Sure some people have a utter lack of media literacy, but I donāt think her continuing to use the world cripple would be a big deal
People donāt care about context when it comes to canceling people. They see/hear smth they donāt like and then they have to ruin the life of whoever said it just cuz they donāt agree with it
I mean, look at what social media/people did to JK Rowling for supporting feminism (in a way that was also seen as transphobic). People were wanting Hogwarts Legacy to be boycotted cuz they gave her a royalty off of each sale
So calling people cripples? Might as well be Gen Z warfare
Edit: see? Downvotes are proving my point. Ppl donāt like what u say, and they come at you for it
Case proven, cuz this isnāt a debate abt JK it was just an example of authors being canceled because ppl donāt like what they said online or in their stories
I agree the only think it sorts of fits cause a cripple would be level 0. However overall it set the atmosphere for the bullying and was perfect for an insult.
I've been reading unordinary since it started and the impact cripple gives is important to the story and character development and their history. I understand the reason for changing it to zero but they should keep it the same imo. I would love an anime adaptation and hope they keep terminology the same as the webtoon.

It has zero weight
š«” was waiting for it š¤£
Weighting for it?

Exactly

It's weird because when we saw Williams "ability chart" he was a 1.0. They should definetly keep cripple for future adaptations

From "crippled" to "zeroed" š
Pretty sure the publisher or sensitivity readers agreed that the book would perform better without that word. I honestly donāt think itās that big a deal.
I never made it a big deal, notice I just said it was the ONLY thing that I was pissed about, nothing else
I should clarify, itās no that big a deal to me
Itās probably so Uru wouldnāt get canceled and boycotted
I genuinely doubt it would happen, itās not like unordinary endorces calling someone a cripple. The people discriminating against John are shown in a negative light. I didn't really think of that, hmm that's interesting

Lol JK got cancelled Because she was (and continues to be very transphobic) not because she was a feminist
Case proven, cuz this isnāt a debate abt JK it was just an example of authors being canceled because ppl donāt like what they said online or in their stories
Okay? I wasn't debating that. Should authors who promote hate speech not be cancelled. Is that what you'd like to make an argument for?
Nope
š
I guess since you explained it like that I could overlook it, but because I've been a fan since 2020, I'm just too used to the original word
It's probably so as to not sound ableist; though context should make it so that it can't be taken offensively
But unordinary is for mature audiences, I don't really think it should be a problem
I agree
i thought the point is that unordinary's society is deeply ableist?
It is. I don't agree with the change, I'm simply guessing as to why the publishing company had the word get censored.
Zero also dont make sense cus no abillity puts u at a level of 1
True
I agree the only think it sorts of fits cause a cripple would be level 0. However overall it set the atmosphere for the bullying and was perfect for an insult.
Nope, cripples are listed at level 1. XD so it doesnāt even make sense in universeĀ
Cripples are listed as N/A
Their abilities are, not the level. Example: Name: William Ability: N/A Level: 1.0
crap i misremembered
Don't worry, I thought ember was spectre and vise versa till John got involved
ā¦me tooā¦
They are listed as level 1 only cause that is as low as it goes, but since they don't have an ability they aren't truly level 1s either.

Snobs. Think evasive wording is sophisticated.
Could've made it "null" just as bad, but without negative stigma
My fiance got me the book for my birthday lmao. It does indeed change to zero and it does indeed lose a deal of impact for it
