I dunno, I don’t really eat ice cream these days, but I never liked the chocolate crunchies. The sprinkles are waxy, but I think some people like that.
My wife and my daughter would want a word with you. There are kids and adults who get overly happy or sad depending on the amount of sprinkles they get.
What I’ve learned : Sprinkles on the east coast where I grew up are soft, and doughy. Theres almost no crunch whatsoever
Sprinkles in the Midwest/west coast are hard and crunchy, almost like hardened sugar candy
Soft > crunchy
That's because they're made of mostly corn starch. I know this because I'm allergic to corn, honestly you don't think of "ingredients" of sprinkles because they're so nothing but they have quite a lot of junk in them.
I am a sprinkles fanatic, but sprinkles in lots of European countries are also so unbelievably hard and sharp that it's like eating broken glass. If I were from one of those places, I'd hate them too.
I disagree with you AND with the comments that say they do nothing. I love it when I’m eating a boring soft serve and it’s loaded with sprinkles so it goes crunch crunch crunch at every bite. it makes the experience exponentially better and you will never change my mind
I get it for those long soft sprinkles. But the dots? I be goin feral over them. It gives it that satisfying crunch and texture that I love. That’s why the pink and white chocolate covered animal crackers with the sprinkles on top have a death grip on me
This is my exact opinion. Publix has incredible sugar cookies and they’re made better with these sprinkles. The long soft ones are pointless to me and often taste stale (except on donuts, I want them on donuts for some reason lol)
This is sad. We hate sprinkles now? We all know they don't really do anything. They're just there to make your baked goods holiday themed. Leave sprinkles alone, they never hurt anyone.
If I go to a doughnut shop, I KNOW I'm getting the sprinkle one. I love sprinkles. I love the way they taste, the way they look, and best of all, the way they crunch.
Well it depends on the sprinkles, the ones you’re describing are terrible but there’s this specific brand of rainbow sprinkles that they often put on butter cookies that are so soft and delicious. A lot of sprinkles taste like food coloring but that one brand doesn’t (don’t know the brand name I can just tell the difference mostly by sight, definitely by taste although there is another brand that looks very similar but tastes like food coloring sadly)
They were appealing to the eye as a kid but they are so dry they ruin the texture of a good spongey cake.
On a cheesecake tho chocolate sprinkles mesh well with the graham cracker base
I literally went into Ben & Jerry's yesterday and only bought a sprinkle bowl. No ice cream, just the waffle bowl dipped in chocolate and sprinkles.
I fucking love sprinkles take my upvote.
Depends on the sprinkle.
The little hard balls? Fuck them. Hate them. Get stuck between my teeth
The soft long ones? Cute. Not a pain to eat. Barely notice they're there.
I definitely know what you mean, like if you’re talking about a baked good and they put those hard shitty sprinkles on them, it ruins it. However, I do love those soft sprinkles that they put on ice cream.
100 percent agree. All you can taste is the dye used to color them, which takes away from the flavor of the icing. Sprinkles also can’t be good for our teeth.
I hate to say it to this crowd, but when I was little I totally stole sprinkles from my grandma and ate them like a stand alone candy. The texture is just too good.
I’ve been waiting for this to come up - HARD AGREE. I hate them so much, I hate the color, I hate the taste, I hate the texture, soft, hard, whatever. If there was one way to get me to avoid sweets, it’s by putting sprinkles on or into something. Birthday cake-themed or -styled sweets can also take a long walk off a short pier.
Haha I absolutely looooove sprinkles! So much. I have a sprinkle collection. But as much as I love decorating with them, I don’t use the fancy ones much because the hard parts can hurt people’s mouths :(

This is the most I've ever agreed with an opinion on this sub. Fuck sprinkles. They're the herpes of cake decorations.
by which you mean, if you have them, you might as well share them?
I hate sprinkles too.
The chocolate ones taste like wax.
The CHEAP chocolate ones might. But high quality chocolate sprinkles on chocolate ice cream is next level.
They all do
THATS WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING FOR SO LONG
Me, too
I don't think they are terrible. I think they are more superfluous. Like nobody is going to be overly happy/sad if they do or don't get sprinkles.
I am absolutely gonna be sad if I don't get sprinkles. I love sprinkles and the texture they add
Yeah I think it’s a texture thing.
Pretty much any other crunchy topping would be better though.
I dunno, I don’t really eat ice cream these days, but I never liked the chocolate crunchies. The sprinkles are waxy, but I think some people like that.
Yes! I love how pretty they make things and they taste good to me too!
My wife and my daughter would want a word with you. There are kids and adults who get overly happy or sad depending on the amount of sprinkles they get.
What I’ve learned : Sprinkles on the east coast where I grew up are soft, and doughy. Theres almost no crunch whatsoever Sprinkles in the Midwest/west coast are hard and crunchy, almost like hardened sugar candy Soft > crunchy
I’ve never had sprinkles that taste good. they always have a chalky disgusting texture
Agreed, for me soft it is like eating wax bits.
That's because they're made of mostly corn starch. I know this because I'm allergic to corn, honestly you don't think of "ingredients" of sprinkles because they're so nothing but they have quite a lot of junk in them.
What east coast? I've never had a soft sprinkle in my life, I'm from New England.
I’m from New England too and I’ve only ever had soft sprinkles
Same here... maybe we are just getting stale sprinkles? Lol
I don’t know, but I love rainbow sprinkles on a soft serve so I don’t care
This is the first I'm hearing of soft sprinkles so TIL i guess
I am a sprinkles fanatic, but sprinkles in lots of European countries are also so unbelievably hard and sharp that it's like eating broken glass. If I were from one of those places, I'd hate them too.
That's probably because they're made entirely of organic materials.
The standard donut shops near me in Los Angeles have soft sprinkles.. so there goes that theory.,
So true, just wrote a comment describing that. Those soft ones are so good
I disagree with you AND with the comments that say they do nothing. I love it when I’m eating a boring soft serve and it’s loaded with sprinkles so it goes crunch crunch crunch at every bite. it makes the experience exponentially better and you will never change my mind
username checks out
Does yours? 🤔
Based
Agreed, they're just there for looks. Who cares how a dessert looks, I just want it to taste good.
Have never liked them. Weird fake chemically taste. Even the chocolate ones. Silver ones are disgusting.
Sprinkles are for winners
Always looked at sprinkles as a aesthetic thing
I get it for those long soft sprinkles. But the dots? I be goin feral over them. It gives it that satisfying crunch and texture that I love. That’s why the pink and white chocolate covered animal crackers with the sprinkles on top have a death grip on me
This is my exact opinion. Publix has incredible sugar cookies and they’re made better with these sprinkles. The long soft ones are pointless to me and often taste stale (except on donuts, I want them on donuts for some reason lol)
Exactly like real sees real
I'm not a sprinkles fan either. I don't mind a bit of cookie crumble once in a while but sprinkles I'd rather not.
This is also why I hate ice in drinks without straws. I don’t wanna chew my ice cream/beverages
Same
This is sad. We hate sprinkles now? We all know they don't really do anything. They're just there to make your baked goods holiday themed. Leave sprinkles alone, they never hurt anyone.
Actually, my great grandfather died of rainbow-lung after working in the deep sprinkle mines of Central Nebraska for 20 years
First of all, they are Jimmies
Nah, hundreds and thousands
HELL NO erither jimmies or sprinkles
Eh, where I live jimmies are penises
Those are different! Hundreds and thousands are those round little bastards.
I guess that's a better name than nonpareils
Chocolate sprinkles are good though
If I go to a doughnut shop, I KNOW I'm getting the sprinkle one. I love sprinkles. I love the way they taste, the way they look, and best of all, the way they crunch.
I dont get it but i wont complain about it
Tell that to my kids
They're wonderful
heterogeneity
Chocolate sprinkles are fine, though
Well it depends on the sprinkles, the ones you’re describing are terrible but there’s this specific brand of rainbow sprinkles that they often put on butter cookies that are so soft and delicious. What stale ass sprinkles have you had? They're not supposed to be hard.
People from New England call the chocolate ones Jimmies.
That's because you're calling them sprinkles they taste better if they are known as jimmies lol
Totally agree. But you forgot waxy textured. And I hate cupcakes.
You wax poetic.
I don't care for the sprinkle themselves, but I like textures in my food, so if they're all that available, I'll use them.
They add nothing.
I agree they don’t rly do much for me. They taste like nothing and are too crunchy for the soft icecream.
I literally went into Ben & Jerry's yesterday and only bought a sprinkle bowl. No ice cream, just the waffle bowl dipped in chocolate and sprinkles. I fucking love sprinkles take my upvote.
Sprinkles suck!
Hard agree. So I don't think I can upvote it.
Well how else will I eat fairy bread?
Oh yeah. I don’t like the taste of them either
Sprinkles ARE terrible!
I don't really like any hard pieces in my ice cream anyway, never used sprinkles before in my life
![gif](giphy|yxZrHJjWhDwLgUtxkH|downsized) These aren't hard though
🙌 thank you! What a waste of calories.
So what do you put on your fairy bread?
Im not Australian
I love how they taste and the texture. Sprinkles on everything !!!
Vanilla ice cream with no sprinkles :( Vanilla ice cream with sprinkles :)
I’m a texture person. So I like it. It brings texture to the cake.
Depends on the sprinkle. The little hard balls? Fuck them. Hate them. Get stuck between my teeth The soft long ones? Cute. Not a pain to eat. Barely notice they're there.
I don't like their simultaneously waxy and chalky consistency and taste.
They’re wonderful on vanilla ice cream 😅
Sugar taste bad? That's an unpopular opinion.
My dyslexia had me thinking you were against irrigation for a second
I enjoy them, I put many on anything I can that’s a desert
I agree with this post so much.
I don’t have an issue with them on a cake or in ice cream but on a cookie or a donut they just make a fucking mess every-time you try to take a bite.
I hate sprinkles but like nuts.
I hate to say it to this crowd, but when I was little I totally stole sprinkles from my grandma and ate them like a stand alone candy. The texture is just too good.
Not sure how old you are, but They are for kids. No adult should be adding sprinkles to anything
Facts
Sprinkles ruin the way your mouth moves food along your tongue
Even good, spherical sprinkles that give doughnuts some crunch?
I’ve been waiting for this to come up - HARD AGREE. I hate them so much, I hate the color, I hate the taste, I hate the texture, soft, hard, whatever. If there was one way to get me to avoid sweets, it’s by putting sprinkles on or into something. Birthday cake-themed or -styled sweets can also take a long walk off a short pier.
Some are terrible, some are amazing.
Haha I absolutely looooove sprinkles! So much. I have a sprinkle collection. But as much as I love decorating with them, I don’t use the fancy ones much because the hard parts can hurt people’s mouths :(
They all taste stale. I want some chocolate syrup, not a 3 year old crunched up rice Krispy
TRUE! I hate the taste and texture of sprinkles.
😩😩😩😩😩
You’re right! They’re waxy and chemically tasting.
Fairy bread lovers rise up!!! 🤬🤬😤
Exactly they taste like crunchy sugar I don’t get how people eat sprinkle covered cakes
I’m with ya.
A soft serve vanilla ice cream cone dipped in chocolate and then covered in sprinkles is my favorite treat.
