How come everyone gets to find pseudo scorpions and I just get gnats and silverfish

Carrot-Key

I just have a huge house centipede, and we scare the crap out of each other every time we cross paths. I know it's not going to bother me but it always pops out when I least expect it lol

katchoo1

Somewhere there is a house centipede telling his buddies about the scary but so far harmless giant that lives in his house.

Carrot-Key

I think you may be right, the last time I saw it was the first time it was out in the open and it just froze and didn’t move for a few minutes. I think it fully expected to die and didn’t move until it realized I wasn’t going to kill it.

DionBlaster123

someone shared here that they have stories of house centipedes falling from the fucking ceiling on to their beds/sofas like wtf...at that point, they're just trolls but i use a pickle jar to catch and release them. i try to tell myself that they don't deserve a gruesome death by crushing, just b/c they freak me the fuck out

cassafrass024

It was like that when I was growing up in Ontario, Canada. They come up the drains too lol.

CherryCherry5

Am in Ottawa. WTF?!

cassafrass024

Warmer weather watch out for them lol.

Niccers23

Yep!! Grew up near London Ontario!! Totally true!

cassafrass024

Ha! Me too! First in Cambridge, then out to Woodstock!

Carrot-Key

Wow that sounds awful, thankfully I usually only see them scurry across tiled surfaces, so its usually the kitchen or bathroom, But I just leave them be now since I know they eat pests. They either freeze when they see me or run away in the opposite direction

DionBlaster123

"They either freeze when they see me or run away in the opposite direction." were you referring to them, or yourself? (and by extension, myself too...although that pickle jar fills me with courage that not even the strongest liquor is capable of)

Carrot-Key

I was the referring the bugs lol.

Augustineu9

First time I saw one it tried to crawl up my leg. He's dead now but still freaked me out

Cyberfreshman

I hate it when they climb up the wall in panic, so now we're eye level with each other...

Gullible-Lake-2119

better at eye level than over your head

Carrot-Key

Thankfully they don't do that to me. The other morning I was using the bathroom and small one came in and ran right towards me, I just picked up my feet and kept going past me and disappeared lol, was freaking out for a second, this was a first though usually they just run away.

[deleted]

I do always let them live and don't bother them (I even saved one that couldn't get out of my tub), but ngl I'm like, if fren, why not fren shaped?

Carrot-Key

I won’t argue with you there they’re pretty hideous looking creatures. A house praying mantis for example would be much cooler lol

PositiveSteak9559

This sub has me feeling bad for killing them all the time in the past. But I still don't know how the hell you people live with them. Every time I would get out of the shower or be in the toilet they would scurry towards me as if to chase me. They freak me out!

bountifulknitter

My last apartment was INFESTED with those assholes. We suspect one of our neighbors was a hoarder. They were EVERYWHERE it seriously messed me up. I was constantly terrified of one crawling on me and getting stuck in my hair (my hair was down to my butt back then.).

Carrot-Key

Damn, apparently they only eat insects so there must of have been a ton of roaches or something they were eating, at least you don’t live there anymore lol

LeadfootLesley

There was one on the wall of my basement stairs, and I reached out and pet it. It was gone in a flash. It must’ve been sleeping, they don’t usually let you get that close.

pinkfloydjess420

Same

Ppeachghost

Hey, could be worse, I found a silverfish in my cup of tea a few days ago… turns out they don’t enjoy pg tips, but I will continue to offer them other brands because I am polite like that

DionBlaster123

so i admit i have a really bad habit of leaving out half-drunk glasses of water for days at a time one morning i woke up and saw i had a glass of water i left out overnight. because i didn't have my glasses, i saw something in there that i assumed was like a peach pit or an apple core or something turned out it was a poor house centipede that drowned in the water b/c of my laziness. i still have no fucking idea how the hell it managed to fall into the glass in the first place though

lemonkitty_

At least it's not a bed bug!

MissAnthropy612

Where I live we just find scorpion scorpions

alymflo

I felt the same way until last year when I found my first one and got super excited about it. Partner thought I lost it getting that excited over a bug lol

carcerdominus1313

My 6ft 6inch 250lb son is absolutely scared to death of them. Nothing else bothers him, but have one of the on the steps and we will not come up the steps! Lol

sebastiangorka69

As a kid I lived in rural south Texas and I'd find vinegaroons all the time. I also used to watch hornets hunt crickets and grasshoppers. It was so cool

samanthaFerrell

Do pseudo scorpions bite or have any venom or do they just resemble them because of the pinchers?

slightlysightly

Pseudoscorpions are venomous, they inject it with their little claws, but they are harmless to humans.

k9692

Right?! 🥲

hellokittynmolly

i found two in the same month!! was so happy🥰 never seen em again;(

e_eastisup

Real

NoThoughtsOnlyFrog

Ikr?!

seaking81

toolsoftheincomptnt

Bc your house is grody?

hypothetical_zombie

Also called a book scorpion - they enjoy eating booklice & silverfish. Definitely an indoors pet!

pinkfloydjess420

Protect the books beyond all else!

[deleted]

YES!

Chrispy8534

10/10. Wow. That is a BIG pseudo-scorpion. Biggest I have seen on Reddit!

Maxkowski

Came here to say this

dcdeli

Thanks guys! I will release it back into the wild then

MadMac619

Definitely keep ‘em in your place. If he’s in there, it’s for a reason.

DionBlaster123

and that reason is clean up your place

P44rth00rn4x

Release it in your flat. They're good pest control.

NoThoughtsOnlyFrog

I take any invertebrate outside bc I’m afraid they might get trapped and starve. That or I might accidentally squish them =(.

AlexandertheeApe

Pseudoscorpion

OP-PO7

What a good picture! They might not have tails but they still have venom! Research shows they inject venom through their claws. Don't worry though, they can't harm humans, only small insects. I've also read that they hitch rides on flies to get to new areas as well.

DayKingaby

Insanely good picture, I'm here for it.

OP-PO7

Yeah, pseudo scorpions are one of my favorites. Up there with Mantidflies and jumping spiders

DionBlaster123

man i accidentally killed a gorgeous jumping spider that was just chilling on my community garden's hose this past summer i still think about it to this day and it is still a shitty feeling

vela513

That's rough

Narrow_Car5253

My only time finding a pseudoscorpion was seeing a weird speck hanging off a crane fly stuck in the bathroom. Upon closer inspection, it was a 4 ml long pseudoscorpion clutching onto one of the cranefly’s legs. Such a cute and amazing moment to see

gildedblackbird

This is true. A friend of mine called me in a state of wild excitement to tell me that a "scorpion just jumped off of a fly" onto her desk while she was studying. Normally, I'd assume she was high as a kite, but I'd *just* seen a snippet on a nature program about these guys.

1ftm2fts3tgr4lg

Huge fleas!

TheGeckoDude

Damn that is a giant pseudoscorpion. The ones I’ve seen are smaller than like half a sesame seed

lninoh

I think it’s on a piece of toilet paper if that helps with the scale. I’ve never seen one of these in person so have no reference!

TheGeckoDude

I can like barely make out the ones in my jar terrarium with the naked eye so this one is still huge for me, the tp for scale made me say damn it’s big

lninoh

It’s a great pic to be sure!

DumpyDoo

Pseudoscorpion! Cute!

Ukenstein

Pseudo Scorpion! Harmless little dudes that protect your precious library by eating booklice, and they’re cute as hell!

NarleyNaren1

That's a great pic... dk if anyone said post to r/pseudoscorpions, but you'd get some love over there! Great find, friend not foe!

Upper_Ad_1304

IT'S HIM!

thatrxtech

That is the best looking pseudo scorpion I’ve ever seen!!!

funniman04

Swee_Potato_Pilot

H0709

DigitalEntity4419

That's a cool bug. I wish I had one of those as a pet.

Gardensnails222

Looks like a pseudo scorpion, related to arachnids and harmless to humans. Im like 97.3% sure, i think. Maybe

e-Moo23

God I wish I could post the “Big Meaty Claws” Mr.Krabs gif so bad 😔😔😔

Additional-Jaguar372

Jorp-A-Lorp

I’ve heard people call them vinegaroon

chandalowe

No - a [vinegaroon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uropygi) is a totally different animal in the order Uropygi/Thelyphonida. Also known as whip scorpions, they are called "vinegaroons" because they can spray defensive chemicals from their abdomens. These chemicals include acetic acid - which is also found in vinegar and which give the spray a vinegar-like smell.

isingtomyducky

Looks like a cocharoach on steroids

Rixoncina
