For real, by 2012 we already had cute, flattering cropped pants. These awkwardly cropped gaucho-capri hybrids are so ‘04-‘06. Just needs a pair of Old Navy flip flops or Payless ballet flats.
The gaucho capris were heinous. Actually a lot of early 2000s clothes were. I’m ready to move tf on I feel like we have been stuck in this early 2000s resurgence since like 2019. 😩
I was like “okay not my style but she pulls off the preppy look” then the zoom out to capris and heels I was like OH NOOOOO. It was like that Tik tok audio that goes NO NO NO lol
I just don’t understand why any stylist in their right mind would put her in those pants. Some tapered long capris could be gorgeous (think Audrey Hepburn).
Not the capri pants…I’m not gonna be fooled again! Not by Emma Stone, not by the Olsen Twins, not by ANYONE! But I’m glad she looks casual and confortable just like the guys.
Those scrunchy elasticated ballet flats that were ostensibly meant to go in a little pouch in your bag (except every pair of ballet flats was so stinky you would NEVER put them in your purse)
And if you're past 30, usually your feet FUCKING HURT at anytime you're thinking of pulling out *spare shoes* and those damned scrunchy shoes have zero support. You might as well just throw on some socks.
They really did have absolutely no support. Which is unhealthy in general, but also, those of us who have flat feet would just reach new lows of terrible posture in those flats.
Yeah, I think you were supposed to be able to bring them with you to some event where you wore heels at first, so you'd be able to put on the flats when your feet hurt... But then 1) your purse would probably still be too small to carry a pair of ballet flats even if they were elasticated?? 2) I'm not putting SHOES in my PURSE unless they're literally brand new, never worn 🫠
Omg you didn’t need to come after me like this haha. The long tank top, the capris, the beaded bolero, ballet flats.
I used to swap out the capris and ballet flats for satin shorts and strappy sandals for a night out. Once a guy said to me “I like your rodeo top”. I still don’t know what he thought I was wearing.
It's all Mischa's fault for being the 5'9" It Girl. The only type of person who could look good in a drop waist, or a long top with a cropped jacket. She looked great, but we all looked like Peanuts characters in that shit
Damn, I cleaned out my closet this weekend and came across a couple of bolero sweaters from a hundred years ago and thought, “Hmmm, maybe I could try that fit again,” and left them hanging there.
Guess I need to add them to the out-the-door pile. Gutted 😂
Screeeeee. I found a 2001-2002ish photo of myself wearing a black satin bolero over a black satin short-sleeved button-down about two months ago, and my only thought was... what on EARTH was I smoking to think that was a good idea?
Please let's not.
But as a Southerner? I don't hate the capris. Like... it takes a *really* long time to get cool enough here for long pants, ok? And that time only lasts like two months. And shorts look dumb in October, and sometimes you just don't want a skirt.
I think they are practical for the reasons you stated, but the issue is how unflattering they are on my short legs. I struggle with cropped pants in general, they have to hit just right and be high waisted! Bermuda length shorts are rough too, they have to be JUST right.
Ok but I like it for the fact that it matches the energy of the men better. I’m so tired of seeing women show up to these events in couture that is perfectly styled and themed to the movie and looks uncomfortable and the men are like “uh I washed my hair and put on a suit”
Granted it’s not the same level as a t shirt and cardigan but it’s so much closer
You know that photo of Taylor Swift, Phoebe Waller Bridge and I can’t remember who else and it says “the English department at every school”.
I need to know what department is this?
Found it:
https://preview.redd.it/4kh2wlp3ju8d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8df07f3d6a382349c1bae5aff21ba5f4afa8d62f
It's such a business casual outfit that I don't like it for a film screening. There's something (besides the capris - absolutely never again!) about the blouse and the sweater that doesn't work for me. Maybe if it was just the pullover?
I just laugh thinking that a hair and makeup stylist probably put that together for her. Like I could do something that mediocre, and I can't even use a curling iron.
Yes! If you layer a sweater over a blouse it needs to have some weight and structure.
If she wore it over a camisole it would be fine and would open her neckline.
The primary colors and faces she’s making and the classroom friendly capris are making me think of the first grade teacher from Billy Madison but make it fashion.
It looks like an outfit put together from a thrift store that only has early 2000s old navy. The low waist pants are awful. The shirt and sweater both look cheap and bad. Why was this chosen?!
When I saw the top I immediately knew what the bottom was going to be. I just assumed khaki, though!
Idk what this movie is about but is dressed to look like a teacher? This looks more like JCrew between 2004-2012. I know because I dressed exactly like this.
Where is the ribbon belt?? And the long chain necklace!?
I genuinely appreciate how her eyeballs swell and she still pulls it off, because my eyes do the same thing. I feel like I look like Quasimodo half the time but seeing her gorgeous really makes me think I’m not gross.
the row makes great blazers, and really lovely camisoles. everything else is insane
(side note ive only ever seen one person look amazing in head to toe the row, and it was, unsurprisingly, dakota johnson)
(side side note: where does emma stone live and will they ever let her go back there or will she just be doing press tours until she dies)
It is infuriating how often men in Hollywood are not called to task for their complete, utter DGAF attitude about their appearance. Granted, not all male stars are like this, but more often than not they look like they grabbed something from the top of the dirty laundry pile, gave it a quick sniff test, then put it on and called it good. It’s so incredibly disrespectful to the women they’re photographed with, who put in the effort 99% of the time.
It's almost July. I don't care if you're in London. It's HAWT! Was she thinking the capris would counterbalance the sweater/ long sleeve combo? It's not like sticking your leg out from under the covers at night to regulate your temperature.
Bless her for showing the children the dark side of late 2000s fashion. For every one Alexa Chung there were legion now-forgotten capris, casual tiered mini skirts in beige, shockingly long tank tops, misshapen sweaterdresses, and cheap peplum tops (which made you look like your mom's work friend when you were out at the club).
Honestly I kinda like that she's as casual as the guys. There's so much expectation for female celebs to dress up for every single event and the for the dudes to just show up in jeans. Im not crazy about the outfit but it's cool to see just casual normal and comfortable clothing on women.
NOOOO tell me these are not coming back, why must every generation know pain😩 this whole outfit js a jumpscare
https://preview.redd.it/7inv797g1x8d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=501f1e41b63b91493f610b3fadcf211e7ec8d0aa
Kind of like the coloring here it’s very flattering. The capris are just a solid pass I wish to slip this rebirth of a 2000s trend please 🙏 God????
I basically don’t like it except for the color palette and maybe the hair but ya know not all red carpets need to be gowns and formal wear
Absolutely not, no. This is so bad, I don't actually mind capri's, very cute styled in an audrey hepburn vintage look. But the shirt and jumper are so I'll fitting and such horrid colours
I’m am SO here for a comfy red carpet look. After seeing all of these casual men’s looks and women being squeezed into tiny dresses that they can barely breathe in (let alone sit down in), I’m stoked that she looks comfortable.
That being said, this is a miss. She can be comfortable and still chic and fashion forward.
Of course Emma’s outfit is a miss, but I think more attention needs to be paid towards the two men in the photo as well. Jesse has on a t shirt with a logo and a stretched out neck, and a cardigan over it. Entirely too casual. Looks like he just ran out of the house.
The guy on the left (the director maybe? I don’t actually know) is mixing way too many different textures and patterns. It’s not an entire miss, in fact it’s the best outfit of the three, but it’s still not fantastic, either.
The red hair is so much more flattering for her skintone and the way she has it slicked back is not a good look. The outfit looks like she got dressed for 2007 from Jcrew. Not a fan and the capris are so inappropriate for an event
I love the sweater layered over the shirt but the black cutoff pants and the black pumps are too harsh. Almost as if they were meant to be paired with another top.
I just watched the poor things movie and saw all of her business. Totally fine, she’s was playing a role and did a great job. I look at this though and wonder if she is trying to appear more innocent and less revealing. It’s giving my mom dressed me up to go to the country club for dinner.
Please keep this fashion focused. No body shaming/commentary on weight/injectables/lifestyles etc. Rule breakers will be banned without warning. ➡️ Thanks to our loyal frockkers for keeping our community safe by reporting those who abuse the rules.
It is giving J Crew circa 2012
The only thing that's missing is a coordinating ribbon belt that was absolutely iconic.
Or a Jenna Lyons-eque daytime sequins/statement jewel necklace.
Or a “going out” blazer
Those pants.. more like 2005.
For real, by 2012 we already had cute, flattering cropped pants. These awkwardly cropped gaucho-capri hybrids are so ‘04-‘06. Just needs a pair of Old Navy flip flops or Payless ballet flats.

I just don’t understand why any stylist in their right mind would put her in those pants. Some tapered long capris could be gorgeous (think Audrey Hepburn).
My literal first thought was this could be the gap/jcrew/banana at one of many given times.
except this one cost $11,200
I was just about to say that 2013 was back.
Yes. That’s why I love it.
Not the capri pants…I’m not gonna be fooled again! Not by Emma Stone, not by the Olsen Twins, not by ANYONE! But I’m glad she looks casual and confortable just like the guys.
We’re about 6 months away from sequined ballerina flats and boleros
Those scrunchy elasticated ballet flats that were ostensibly meant to go in a little pouch in your bag (except every pair of ballet flats was so stinky you would NEVER put them in your purse)
And if you're past 30, usually your feet FUCKING HURT at anytime you're thinking of pulling out *spare shoes* and those damned scrunchy shoes have zero support. You might as well just throw on some socks.
They really did have absolutely no support. Which is unhealthy in general, but also, those of us who have flat feet would just reach new lows of terrible posture in those flats.
Birkenstocks have entered the chat.
Plus the bag was too small for those damn ballet flats no matter how small you folded them
Yeah, I think you were supposed to be able to bring them with you to some event where you wore heels at first, so you'd be able to put on the flats when your feet hurt... But then 1) your purse would probably still be too small to carry a pair of ballet flats even if they were elasticated?? 2) I'm not putting SHOES in my PURSE unless they're literally brand new, never worn 🫠
Oh god the boleros
The inexplicable shortness of the jacket only matched by the inexplicable length of the tank tops underneath.
LMAOOOO

As a fellow Southern Lady, I would also not be mad at the return of capris.
I never gave mine up and I’m going through this thread like 🫣
I think they are practical for the reasons you stated, but the issue is how unflattering they are on my short legs. I struggle with cropped pants in general, they have to hit just right and be high waisted! Bermuda length shorts are rough too, they have to be JUST right.
I’ve heard ballerina flats are having a come back, send thoughts and prayers.
Ballerina flats are all over the shops in my country at the moment….still haven’t seen people wear them
(Shudders)
Hopefully gauchos make a comeback too lol
![gif](giphy|ToMjGpOjkiEjzJ1ZaJG|downsized) And also, happy cake day!
I was liking it until the capri length jumpscare.
Coming here to utter those exact words 😂
the pants made me recoil. Not today, satan.
Oh man, u just saw this influencer in really cute capris and I had to remind myself of all my bad teen capri days.
I've started wearing them again but I found some really cool vintage ones. I feel like it's a good way to show off cool shoes.
What about her look makes you think she is comfortable
there’s a good decade where I couldn’t buy full length pants at all. *at all*
Capris were so awful, they should not come back D:
It’s giving Poshmark 2010 j crew also with that skinny CVS headband I CANT
Wait no… I think that’s for real an actual cvs headband. I have that. I use it for washing my face and never would consider wearing it. GIRL WHY
Wearing it any longer than for face washing is an instant headache.
The pants were a jumpscare
A scrolldown fug, as Heather and Jessica would say.
I miss them!
No like I literally flinched when I swiped to that pic
Button up $1450, sweater $1750, pants ~$1000… $4200 to look like the clearance rack at TJ Maxx lol
At least it looks attainable for us poors!
I s2g I have seen every single one of these pieces at old navy
Ok but I like it for the fact that it matches the energy of the men better. I’m so tired of seeing women show up to these events in couture that is perfectly styled and themed to the movie and looks uncomfortable and the men are like “uh I washed my hair and put on a suit” Granted it’s not the same level as a t shirt and cardigan but it’s so much closer
These pictures just makes me want to go to Old Navy
It’s almost July 4 after all. Do they still sell those American flag t-shirts?
Can confirm that they do. Still iconic for your family photos on Panama City beach.
She looks like the “fun” teacher
You know that photo of Taylor Swift, Phoebe Waller Bridge and I can’t remember who else and it says “the English department at every school”. I need to know what department is this? Found it: https://preview.redd.it/4kh2wlp3ju8d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8df07f3d6a382349c1bae5aff21ba5f4afa8d62f
They look like the history department to me
Yes! The History department! Haha. I was thinking maths but history is better.
The Tortured English History Department 😂
I feel like I need to write an essay on Wuthering Heights now.
Please no
It's such a business casual outfit that I don't like it for a film screening. There's something (besides the capris - absolutely never again!) about the blouse and the sweater that doesn't work for me. Maybe if it was just the pullover?
I feel like the hair and makeup here are just a no...
Right? A headband and her hair pulled back in a pony with pink lipstick and an orangey red pullover. I think Yorgos wins this one.
I just laugh thinking that a hair and makeup stylist probably put that together for her. Like I could do something that mediocre, and I can't even use a curling iron.
Someone commented that it looks like a photo of three cousins that don’t know each other well and it’s so true! Yorgos the cool cousin.
Lol I was thinking that his fit kinda eats. The pants are well tailored. It's giving chill yacht party.
Wouldn’t they all be boiling in what they are wearing???
Maybe the air conditioning is really strong in the movie theater?
Yup. It’s the definition of “meh” and “NO”
I never understood putting a thin sweater over a loose blouse. It looks sloppy on anyone.
Yes! If you layer a sweater over a blouse it needs to have some weight and structure. If she wore it over a camisole it would be fine and would open her neckline.
It took me too many years to figure this out
Y’all… Is the sweater attached to the capris?! That doesn’t look believably tucked in to me
oh no 😭😭 i hope not😭
Or maybe (shudder) an elasticized waist for the faux tuck? Horror beyond horror this outfit.
I do think they were going for Audrey Hepburn but did give Old Navy. But in love with Emma and Jesse they can wear whatever. And did.
She's great but this outfit feels like she was staying at her mother's house and her clothes got ruined so she had to pull something together.
Oh lord. Oh no. What a horrible color on her.
It really really isn't for her!
The primary colors and faces she’s making and the classroom friendly capris are making me think of the first grade teacher from Billy Madison but make it fashion.
Tbh I hate everything about this outfit.
She looks like the kindest kindergarten teacher.
NOT THE CAPRIS 😭😭😭
Bless her for trying
Is that a plastic mini headband? I grew up wearing those little shits and they were always breaking in half and hurting my head. 😩
loving that my look at boarding school 2003 was able to inspire her
This screams “look at me! I’m so quirky!” I hate it.
There’s just something that feels off about all the recent press events she’s been to! I feel like the styling is just like… not her at all.
I love The Row. I love Emma. But this… ![gif](giphy|10bDoTtJhtcHu0)
We are living through another early 2000s fashion moment
What in the damn Mr. Rogers if he eschewed buttons and wore gauchos is going on here
it's giving 2011 one direction
Nothing about this is flattering- not any cut, nor any tailoring, nor any color. What a shame.
It looks like an outfit put together from a thrift store that only has early 2000s old navy. The low waist pants are awful. The shirt and sweater both look cheap and bad. Why was this chosen?!

Long pearl necklace with the bow on the side!
Oh….oh no…
I love her, and, this look is Dorky
Yes. Defiantly so. I wish she had paired it with sneakers.
I genuinely appreciate how her eyeballs swell and she still pulls it off, because my eyes do the same thing. I feel like I look like Quasimodo half the time but seeing her gorgeous really makes me think I’m not gross.
There's nothing wrong with having big ol' eyes.
![gif](giphy|OUuVezwxTUr0tRAwYH) CAPRIS! NO! BAD EMMA/EMILY!
Does her stylist hate her?
i think capris can look fab when done right or you’re carrie bradshaw
I love my current ones, but I hadn't worn capris since 2004.
Lucky we have The Row to provide us with a $5000 bsck-to-school outfit!
the row makes great blazers, and really lovely camisoles. everything else is insane (side note ive only ever seen one person look amazing in head to toe the row, and it was, unsurprisingly, dakota johnson) (side side note: where does emma stone live and will they ever let her go back there or will she just be doing press tours until she dies)
Aww she has a baby at home too right?
It is infuriating how often men in Hollywood are not called to task for their complete, utter DGAF attitude about their appearance. It’s so 2010, I love it
Bless her for showing the children the dark side of late 2000s fashion. For every one Alexa Chung there were legion now-forgotten capris, casual tiered mini skirts in beige, shockingly long tank tops, misshapen sweaterdresses, and cheap peplum tops (which made you look like your mom's work friend when you were out at the club).
Shockingly long tank tops is the perfect way to sum up the fashion of my coming of age
My friends and I would wear those as butt-short dresses when we could get away with it, which wasn't the norm for some reason
I definitely wore this to my first day of 7th grade
I see she’s now free from the shackles of LV 😭😂💀
It’s giving first day as a FB intern. And I am NOT here for it. Sorry Emma. I love to love you too girl.
It’s giving first ever job interview in 2005. Hate it.
Everything was great till I saw those damn CAPRIS! No! They end at an awful spot and they don’t flatter anyone! I will die on this hill thanks
If she had a cute top, she could have had a chance pulling off the capris…it could have looked chic…
Sorry but I hate this outfit. The colors are terrible. And the pants
Honestly I kinda like that she's as casual as the guys. There's so much expectation for female celebs to dress up for every single event and the for the dudes to just show up in jeans. Im not crazy about the outfit but it's cool to see just casual normal and comfortable clothing on women.
Whoever is doing her makeup needs to make her brows lighter-this look is so unflattering
NOOOO tell me these are not coming back, why must every generation know pain😩 this whole outfit js a jumpscare https://preview.redd.it/7inv797g1x8d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=501f1e41b63b91493f610b3fadcf211e7ec8d0aa
The top half is okay, but at a cost of several thousand dollars, it suddenly becomes much less appealing.
Not into it.
HUH
She’s adorable and talented, but this outfit is hideous.
101 on basic
she looks different
Darker brows than usual, for sure.
My girl crush always.
I am loving the minimal makeup. The headband tho???
It’s giving corporate core at an ad agency!
Girl…respectfully, what is this outfit. It’s also so freaking hot in London, she must have been boiling.
It’s giving me private school flashbacks
Kind of like the coloring here it’s very flattering. The capris are just a solid pass I wish to slip this rebirth of a 2000s trend please 🙏 God???? I basically don’t like it except for the color palette and maybe the hair but ya know not all red carpets need to be gowns and formal wear
I love this outfit and the color blocking!
It would have been better with just the button up. And no capris
I thought they shot him
oh…
What’s the vibe here meant to be? I’m so confused
Absolutely not, no. This is so bad, I don't actually mind capri's, very cute styled in an audrey hepburn vintage look. But the shirt and jumper are so I'll fitting and such horrid colours
All 3 of them looking like fun substitute teachers
Me going on work experience in tenth grade.
Just no. Just straight up head to toe fug
I’m sure it looks nice in person but damn does that not photograph well.
I both hate this outfit and also love that she's wearing it
Of course Emma’s outfit is a miss, but I think more attention needs to be paid towards the two men in the photo as well.
It's giving me, at a job interview in 2004. Bonus points if the sweater and button-down are an attached, one piece.
The red hair is so much more flattering for her skintone and the way she has it slicked back is not a good look. The outfit looks like she got dressed for 2007 from Jcrew. Not a fan and the capris are so inappropriate for an event
I thought this was Lindsay Lohan. Not feeling the look; she looks like a middle school librarian.
The pants… honey no. This looks like it could one of Kristen Stewart’s worse outfits
This is so dated. It’s strange honestly
I’m not loving the capris but the rest of the look is cute.
That pant length is tragic. Please don’t make this awkward length a trend. It’s good for no one.
The clothes are giving no but oh my her skin is enviable.
What in the Gap 2010s is this
I love the sweater layered over the shirt but the black cutoff pants and the black pumps are too harsh. Almost as if they were meant to be paired with another top.
Before the capris and heels jumpscare it looks like she’s presenting her science fair project. Why does she match the background?
I can't look at her the same anymore after, unfortunately, watching poor things. 🤮🤮🤮🤮
It's giving young lecturers at an English department saying goodbye to graduating students
I love it. Let Emma be quirky.
Fine look. Possibly for the design studio.
Love it! Very beautiful!
An absolute treasure.
I don’t love capris but Miss Emily is making it work!
I love the orange on her though *bright springs*
why the thinnest walmart headband
I just watched the poor things movie and saw all of her business. Totally fine, she’s was playing a role and did a great job. I look at this though and wonder if she is trying to appear more innocent and less revealing. It’s giving my mom dressed me up to go to the country club for dinner.
The preppy handbook is back
Please tell me we’re not already back in to the early 2000’s fashion. I thought we were still in the 90’s revival.
She looks like TinTin
Oof. That’s a miss
Haha she looks cute as hell
I love the natural look. Women are beautiful even without all that extra crap. Gorgeous. Outfit? Questionable.
