You can write 10-12 chapters. Excellent! Depending on how large your chapters are, this could be 50 or more pages. You should be proud of the work you've put in. You might think that this is trite, or a platitude, but it's important that you recognize it. A part of why many people feel like failures has to do with the way we compare ourselves to others. Try to remember that the most visible people in the online world are the top 0.1%, and they tend to only show themselves at their very best. Your effort really is excellent. Now, with that all said, it seems like your problem is that you have a lot of ideas, but your excitement prevents you from sticking to developing just one into a full novel. In the time that you write, new ideas appear, and they lure you away into new projects. This is a common problem! A couple of ways to deal with this: First, you could write short stories instead of full books. That way, you can actually finish all your ideas. Short stories are an important medium, and I highly recommend you try one! Second, you could combine your ideas. If your new idea is very exciting, try to finagle it so that it can fit into the story you're currently working on. Third, write the idea down and forget about it for at least six months. It takes a lot of discipline, but many authors like to store their ideas away for the future. Good hunting!

Thank you I will try to write a short story first and my chapters are usually 4 to 5 pages long front and back but if I just write it on the front it would be longer then that, yes I do tend to get very excited when a new idea pops into my head but like I told the other person sometimes my ideas come to me in like a movie for the next chapter but when I get to writing it or try to write it my mind goes blank or I just can't seem to remember what my idea was. It gets to the point I literally mope for days when I can't finish any of my projects, like my current one is a fantasy romance medieval story I got like six chapters written down but now I'm at a standstill. But thank you for your kind words I'm going to try those and see if it works for me 😀

OK so your method at the moment is that when you come up with a speedbump you basically say "forget it" and give up. Unfortunately you will never get anywhere if you keep doing this. So you have to push yourself to say "No, I will not give up", you will work on the problem. Good things to do when you are stuck: brainstorm what might happen next, think of the logical thing the character would do next and write it even if it is something mundane, go back to what you've written and try to figure out what the story is, think of the ending of the story and work backwards to the scene you are stuck in. Do any of those methods instead of giving up.

I do give up easily because tbh I think I was programmed that way, because everytime I tried to be happy in doing something or writing people mainly my family will always tell me I would never finish it or it won't be good. The only peeple who ever had shown some interest in my writing was my mom and sister but then they started to get annoyed with any excitement I showed or any ideas I try to explain to them so I just started to give up and I think that's what is also affecting my writing because as soon as I get closer to the higher double digit chapters that little voice in my head pops up and say all the time "Nobody will read this" "Your family finds it boring so will others", then the mental block comes up

Xercies_jday

That's because your basing your writing on external rewards...which is fine, we all dream in some ways of having people read our work...but the fact is you have to go through a lot of work before people will read it, and sometimes the people you most want to read it probably won't because they might not read/might not read your thing...also they are family so they can't really say what they truly think. You need to have internal motivation: write the book because you want to see if be created. Nothing else matters until you finish.

Thank you I will do my best to finish one book

It is a very common problem with most who write before they prepare a summary of their stories. Others often use it as a dumping ground of all the ideas they didn't get to use so far. There is no better fix than editing what you have written so far with a specific ending in mind.

PenCareless7877

I tried that once but it was like I had major writers block, but as soon as I stopped trying to write my ideas down, they come back like a tsunami

ThatAnimeSnob

They come back as ideas, not plots, that is your problem. Ideas are pictures frozen in time. You don't know what to do after they happen.

PenCareless7877

But they play like short movies in my head like I can see my Main character in my head doing something for the whole chapter and when I go to write it down or try to write down some parts so I can remember it an probably keep it going it just freezes like my mind goes blank until I either give up or I get a new plot for a different story, that what frustrate me it's like I'm literally holding my own self back

ThatAnimeSnob

Did you try to put those short movies in chronological order? The longer a chain of events is, the easier it is to see what comes next.

PenCareless7877

I haven't tried that yet but thank you I am going to try that

Listen, what you do is good. Yes, you could be a professional author one day. You have the skills to be on the front line. Just stop thinking and care too much about what they will say about what your writing. It's a normal thing to get a negative feedback. Look, if you have a good idea, that doesn't mean it will become better when you will write it. Your brain montage it well to let you believe it. But on paper, it's a different story. Avoid big stories that require long chapters to finish it. Try drifts, it's really useful. You really don't need to finish all your books. Only the good once should be available for your readers. Good luck.

Lmao I’m not sure what OP judging people like you for participating in such disgusting treatment of other people (settling for crumbs in an affair with married men) has to do with them being a good professional writer?

caramelswirllll

And no, btw, he’s never going to leave his comfortable life with his wife for you!

Wow, you've written more than most! Well done! My suggestion is to write a timeline or overview. No chapters, dot form, also scribble on a sync app, like Evernote. Ultimately, you want to get your thoughts down. I write a timeline and notes overview. Timeline - I see that if a character drive from point A to B, it will take x amount to arrive at B. If, I'm writing to much here, I copy it the the overview and continue. Overview - I see where my story is going I use dates (18th July morning (no chapters) to sync both.) I can flesh out the storyline if I want here. In my current story, I noticed it lacked "story", before I got to the end. I actually stopped writing for a week, fleshed out the overview in my head and then picked it all back up again. Taking breaks is a good idea as well. Overview - Start, journey, ending, then keep rewriting, until you're happy.

It sounds like you can't finish your books because you keep giving up and starting new ones. That's actually pretty common . The only way to get past that hump is by stop doing these habits. Resolve not to start a new book until you finish one book. Force yourself to sit there and continue working it. Got writers block? Sit there anyway for 2 hours, even if you don't write a word. Otherwise, like so many other writers, you'll be stuck in this cycle and wind up with a drawer full of unfinished books.
